Btw, you can catch my anarcho-capitalist ranting at my personal site, TJIC.com.

Chicago Boy in the House!!

Like Dan, I’m a fan.

I suppose that that’s not as unlikely as it might sound … are not fans of the free market overrepresented among founders of companies?

Anyway, we’re honored to have you as a customer / member of the community here!

There’s some chit-chat on the subject already here.

It’s not a superhero comic, but I’ll second the recommendation for Criminal. It’s really amazing crime noir. You can see some samples of the work by trawling artist Sean Phillips’ blog

Well, I try to avoid works by authors who think I’m an idiot, too, which is a great way of putting it. Unfortunately, I’m not a big reader of the superhero stuff these days, other than a sort of unkickable nostalgia addiction to the sort of 1960-70s cosmic space opera-type stuff that’s still going on in occasional special series like Annihilation, Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.

I think your best bet is to start a forum thread asking for adivce. Most of the folks there follow the current crop of superhero titles closely and enthusiastically. Since the ways to find folks on HeavyInk are mostly via interaction in the forum, following linked reviews, etc., I’m guessing not many folks know your blog is here (there IS a list of all public personal profiles, but it’s currently not easy to find/notice – something we’ll shortly be addressing). Anyway, I think folks would be very happy to recommend stuff to you in the forum.

James, can you say a little more about the sorts of stories you like or don’t like? Any particular genre? Art style? Era? Etc.

Having the martial arts background, check out ‘Kick Ass’. A great new superhero ‘Gemini’ is great. ‘Neozoic’ has great art. ‘Atomic Robo’ is big now, too. These might get you started.

I’m guessing The Shadow.

BTW, James, a couple of us HeavyInkers are Chicagoboyz fans…
