Jason Copland

I’m a comic book artist. And a hockey fan. But don’t hold that against me.

My blog lives here: http://www.jasoncopland.com

Free Art.....?

Howdy!

Taking a page from the many industrious comic book creators who seem to have a way better handle on this whole “promote yourself” deal, I’ve added an option to my blog to subscribe to the monthly Jason Copland Newsletter. I know, not a very exciting title, is it?

And not only will it be informative but it will be rewarding, too! I’m going to offer chances to WIN ORIGINAL ART/SKETCHES! Postage paid!!

But you have to subscribe to be eligible… so head on over to my blog at http://www.jasoncopland.com and sign up! (You can find the subscription box on the right hand side).

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jason! I remember you talking about this site a long time ago…I guess I am starting to catch-up to you :)

Jason! You’re everywhere, man – I can’t get away from you!

Wow the stuff on your blog looks great. What are your inking tools of choice? I’m tired of using Microns. Any suggestions? And it’s good to see another hockey fan too. Cheers

Hey man, what can I say. I like staring at drawings. It mystifies me. In theory, it's just excelled coordination of the hand, yet no matter how much I practice, I can't swing it. It's like going to Cirque de Soleil and thinking "With enough yoga, I could do that" and then finding out no, no you can't.

In summary: u draw gud.
Dan
...so, he's new to me, but I'll be keeping an eye out, and ordering more of his stuff.
Dan
Well, I just ordered Tiempos Finales from him, and loved it. He also runs the Fist-A-Cuffs thing, which is just brilliant.
I'm slightly familiar with Sam's work. Friend and colleague Michael May has introduced me to Sam a few times, but I've never had a chance to sit down and look at his stuff. Michael had a pretty cool sketch from Sam, though. What are some titles that Sam's worked on?
Dan
Jason, good list! (Although I'm not terribly familiar with Ashley Wood, I like a lot of what I've seen - with the exception of Tank Girl, which was just a little too jarring on the eyes.) I recently stumbled on Sam Hiti - are you familiar with him?
I tend to follow artists who have more of an "art" look to their work. Guy Davis, Paul Pope, Ashley Wood, Bill Sienkiewicz, Walt Simonson are all artists that put out work that I will buy, no questions asked. I tend to stay away from most superhero titles, so my knowledge of many of those book's artists is pretty nonexistent.
You've thought correctly, so who do you gravitate towards when it comes to artists?

This ambitious story mixes many influences and genres(ranging from cyberpunk to Feudal samurai to spaghetti western to horror) into one amazing roller coaster ride. Alex is a top notch artist and an extremely inventive storyteller. His character designs are evocative as is the fully realized world they inhabit. His layouts are bold. His pacing is impeccable. And, man, can he tell a story with pictures. The body language of his characters speak volumes, which is especially paramount when one of your main “actors” doesn’t utter a word.

Robotika is a groundbreaking book, in terms of story and art, and I highly recommend that people give it a shot.
