Batman The Long Halloween Softcover [ link ]

Having just read this, it’s fresh on my mind. I’ll start off with Tim Sale on art and just say that it was hard to read with his almost featureless characters, really cringe-worthy. Jeph Loeb didn’t do too much better, but I will give credit to the entertaining story. The way he tells it is where I’m irked, most of the time it’s not too bad, but about a quarter of it makes me want to turn the page and hope the next one is better. I think Batman cried 2 or 3 times during this book and that isn’t Batman to me. I’m giving the artist and writer each 1 star, and a 3rd star for what the story could have been. Also, I share a birthday with the main antagonist, “The Roman”

Walking Dead Compendium Vol. 1 [ link ]

What can you really say about The Walking Dead that you don’t already know? Not much, but that won’t stop anybody from telling you again. This is one of the best series’ on the written and drawn page. You followa small band of survivors of a zombie apocalypse on their trek to survive not only the zombies, but themselves and those they travel with, occasionally. Zombies are the back-up story here and the interactions and decisions of the characters in this book are what make it really tick. The compendium here is the best bang for your buck, I loan mine out all the time to friends and family and they always come back with a horrified smile on their faces.

Boys Vol. 5 Herogasm [ link ]

Hahahaha. That pretty much sums up this volume of The Boys, if you’re a Garth Ennis fan, and nasty. I’m a big fan of The Boys and this is no different, and probably one of the most entertaining intro issues to a story arc I’ve read. It gets funny, nasty, sad and a little more nasty but if you’re into Garth Ennis and his antics, give it a whirl

Crossed Vol. 1 [ link ]

Here’s a book that takes a special sort of person to like. There are some scenes in here that would make Cannibal Corpse lyrics cringe. The post-apocalyptic setting that has seen heightened popularity in the past few years in several mediums comes at us again here in Crossed, but with a twist. Almost everybody has been turned into a Crossed; a maso-sadist being that does things to other human beings that only your wildest imaginations could conceive, and I love it! Get this book if you like Garth Ennis. Don’t get this book if you like seeing humans stay in one piece.

The Irredeemable Ant Man [ link ]

I just finished this up a few days ago, and Kirkman is pretty spot on throughout the book. I liked the fact that it was all about the little guys in the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization rather than the major players, specifically Eric O’Grady who dons (however illegally) the new Ant-Man costume and pretty much has a blast. Eric has an interesting personality that you’ll be able to see develop throughout the series, as one of the things Kirkman is so good at (usually) This one is a buy

Back To Brooklyn [ link ]

This is your run-of-the-mill mobster revenge tale, pencilled by Garth Ennis. The art isn’t my favorite, and it isn’t one of Garth’s milestone works either, but if you’re just looking for something middle of the road from Ennis, this isn’t a bad choice.

Death Note Vol. 1 [ link ]

Now this is a cool idea for a book. They have some crazy manga, but this is one I really enjoy. Kid finds a notebook that can kill anyone, anyway at any time with no implications as to who or what is doing it, but with a moral agenda? Who is the ugly demon, and what are his motives? All these questions are answered and more in this fantastic introduction for a really fun series of manga. Do yourself a favor and at least check this volume out

The Chill [ link ]

Now this is a weird book. I like it, but it’s pretty out there. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but the pacing of the book is solid, and I do like the art. It’s a crime book with supernatural elements and chilling ritualistic murder. I recommend it

Stuff Of Legend [ link ]

This is quite a fun book. Toy Story: black edition, and good for the whole family. I read it, my wife and step-daughter have all read it and we really enjoyed it for what it is..toys fighting the boogeyman to save their owner who doesn’t even know they’re alive! The shape of the book is different being that it’s pretty long and short. I’d recommend this book to just about anyone

Watchmen Tp [ link ]

Watchmen gets loved and hated on pretty equally among readers. I fall into the former category, and I absolutely loved the book from beginning to end. It’s a pretty long book but it’s worth really giving it your all and really getting into the book. I haven’t read all of Alan Moore’s work, but I’ve read a fair amount and this rank up there on the list along with V for Vendetta and From Hell. Disregard any movie hype or hate and grab this book, clear some space on your schedule and enjoy it.

Tech Jacket Vol. 1 The Boy From Earth [ link ]

Now this is a tasty Kirkman treat. I read this not too long ago and really liked it. A boy going home from school one day finds a wrecked space ship and an alien suit of armor attaches to him and gives him some crazy abilities. The premise behind how his suit works is interesting and logical, in a super-hero sort of way. If you’re a Kirkman fan, you will probably enjoy this.
