Anyway, that’s very cool. Were you reading them in English? I’m French first, English second, so I read them in French. I also read all of the Tintin books at one point or another, but the humour in the Asterix ones is what grabbed me more and why I simply liked them more.

There have been three live action Asterix movies that I know of and of the three, I’ve only seen one, Mission Cleopatra. I thought it was very funny and pretty well done and that it remained quite true to the stories I knew and loved as a child. I saw it in French though, i.e. non-dubbed, no clue if a dubbed version would be good or not, although I read on wikipedia that the English dubbed version was Americanized a little bit.

No clue if that would interest you or not, but with the Holidays coming, TV will be showing plenty of animated Asterix movies in French around here. I could record them and send you the DVDs. That is, if you can understand French… :)

Bummer. I remember a few years ago Wrightson was asking people to send him high resolution scans of the illustrations that they purchased from him because he was going to publish his own version of the book. It was going to cost $300-400…but I wonder if he gave-up on that and gave the files over to Dark Horse for this new book.

Dan, great Berni Wrightson story! And an awesome surprise in the form of a Ralph Reese story…that is simply excellent. All just in time for the Frankenstein reprint (I think I now have 2 copies of it, paperback from when Marvel published it, a hardcover from a few years ago when Underwood reprinted it…and now I am thinking of buying this one as well if the reproductions are good).

Now that is some pro-level customer service! This is why Heavy Ink gets my funnybook money. Thanks, Dan!

Hey man, I saw that you are picking up the new issue of The Killer. I don’t know what’s been going on with the long wait, but I highly recommend you check out a movie called Le Samourai, a fantastic movie about a french hitman, and from what I’ve heard a major influence for this comic.

Yeah! It’s one of my favs! I’m a Grant Morrison fangirl. :) Invisibles was actually one of the first comics I read. You should read it whie tripping on cold medicine. I called me friends explaining that the Beatles were God and didn’t get much further than that.

That’s cool that your mom got you into comics. I’m scared that because I like comics, me kids are going to rebel and like… football or something dastardly like that.

And whenever I read or watch something horrid I think about all the people it went though that said, “Yes, this is worth risking out money on.” There’s writer, artists, colorists, inker and letterer (all depending of course)... then comes more than a few editors. Don’t ever blame one editor for a work, there’s always an editor editing an editor. Then marketing and other departments read it, or at least sample the titles occasionally.

And ALL of those people said… “YES! We are going to sink some money into THIS project because we think people are going to buy so much of THIS that we’ll make money off of it. THIS is where it’s happening! THIS is where it’s at!”

That’s usually where I start crying in horrible movies. Why didn’t the actor at one point just look up and say, “Seriously, NO ONE is going to sit through this shit. Am I the only one to notice this?”

Being business savy is very important. I go to a university that has a high ranking business school and we get business lessons injected into all of the disciplines. It’s constantly, “How can I make money with this?” and “How can I market this?” I know, because of this training, that I’m better off going into the real world with this very practical degree, that someone with a a degree from a nose-in-their-books school.

Valerie (Occasional Superheroine) is super-fab. I always find her blogs fun to read, where as some other women comic-readers blog nothing but “blah blah whine whine, not enough women readers.”

...for fucks sake.
