Pros and Cons of the Local Comic Shop

CON: I haven’t seen the new, awesome girl in two weeks. I believe she was replaced by a new guy who’s, frankly, kiiinda creepy and makes me want to get out of the store as soon as possible.

CON: Creepy guy has a ponytail just like Awesome girl’s. I experienced severe letdown when I walked in and saw a ponytailed person at the register, only to have them turn around and reveal a matching goatee.

PRO: A new addition to their wall of expensive-comics-you-should-totally-buy. Is an autographed copy of Atomic Robo #1.

SIDENOTE: Brian! signs his comics as “Brian! Clevinger”. Sir, you are silly.

Dear Postal Service

I’m out of unread comic books. I’m even finished off that stack of graphic novels I built up last spring.

You know what would really help? Those 18 comic books of mine you’re carrying.

You delivered my Wolderine #67 in two days. That was pretty awesome.. reminded me of waaay back last fall when HI shipments were consistently arriving in 3 days… just awesome.

but yeah, if you could get those other 18 books over here. That’d be great.

Blog.

So, like an idiot, I left my doodle journal in my backpack a while back.. and left that backback over at a friend’s house. Took me forever to realize where it was… took me most of the month to get the backpack back. (mostly my fault there, but still)

Then, after I got my journal back… I lost my flickr account. Or rather, I lost my Yahoo! account when someone packet-sniffed my IM password in a coffee-shop and swiped it out from under me by the time I got home. I’ve emailed a Yahoo! form-letter-robot a couple times, then sent them a fax on Tuesday, no word since.

In the mean time, I tossed word to flickr itself, and they were kind enough to transfer my flickr account to a new Yahoo! ID.

End of it all is this: I got my journal back. I got my flickr back.

Doodle Journals are soon to come.

Doodle Journal: Fake Moustaches

Page 6: Fake Moustaches

Inspired by a recent HI blurb.

Everyone needs a photo with a giant fake mustache. Everyone.

Another Doodle Journal

One last Doodle post for the year:

Page 4: My One New Year's Regret

Okay, now with no other plans to speak of, I’m on my way to Santa Cruz to hang-out with strangers on the street next to a big clock.

Here’s to finding parking!

Doodle Journal

I started a Doodle Journal over the weekend. It is exactly what it sounds like.

This is what I have so far:
Page #1Page 2Page 3: Why?

I suggest reading the Large Version: Page 1, Page 2, Page 3

I figured I’d post about it here since it’s very likely this will lead into me getting back into drawing very low quality stick-man comics like I did in school, and threatened to do on a forums a month or so ago.

Note: Looks like something on HI’s side is killin the links to the Large Versions. (Link resolves fine in RSS, not on the website)

My Comics Are Here, Again.

The Internet was good to my mailbox yesterday, as not only did I get my latest Heavy Ink shipment (House of M: Avengers #1, and Living with the Dead #2), but I also found a game from Gamefly (The Orange Box.. Yay Portal!) and a package from shirt.woot! (Uh-oh)

That said, I donno how much I liked the books themselves. HoM:Avengers didn't grab me, but I'm willing to wait until #2 to damn it. And while LwtD #1, about two dudes surviving Zombie Apocalypse by pretending they're zombies already, was freaking awesome... issue #2 was wasted on them trying to impress a girl. It's only a three-issue series; there's a lot of fun to be had in this world, but not much time left to do it.  :/

It's worth noting that my prediction from earlier held true. My comics only took three days to get to the Bay Area (not counting Sunday, of course). It's cool that it only takes a couple days to ship the stuff cross-country, but with that in mind: Is it really worth it to get the $3.99/shipment UPS option when the regular Postal Service rocks so hard for cheap?

(Let's wait until Xmas traffic clogs the postaltubes before praising things -too- much, though)

My Comic Is Here!

My first Heavy Ink shipment came in today, Yay.

It was a single comic, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash #1, a face-off I've been looking forward to ever since I heard the movie rumors. I just hope the writers keep to the  real spirit of characters. (By which I mean, Ash and Freddy say funny stuff while slicing things up... and Jason just slices things up.)

For the record, the shipment was postmarked in Arlington, Mass. this Monday (Nov. 12) and arrived here in the San Jose area 3 days later (Nov. 15).

By coincidence, my 2nd shipment went out today. If it goes as fast as the last one, I'll expect it here on Monday.

What I Pulled This Week: Nov. 14, 2007

  • New Avengers #36 - I like how the "Previously..." page references an issue of Mighty Avengers that hasn't actually come out yet. I also like evil symbiote-infected superheroes. Yay.
  • Punisher: War Journal #13 - I miss Irredeemable Ant Man, hopefully Cory Walker's art in War Journal will ease my pain.
  • World War Hulk #5 of 5 - Sentry vs. The Hulk. I expect lots of Explosive Punching.
  • X-Factor #25 - I like X-Factor, but I'm not sure how they'll fit in this Messiah Complex thing. I hope it doesn't suck.
  • X-Men: Die by the Sword #3 of 5 - I like Exiles, but after this crossover they're relaunching as New Exiles. I hope it doesn't suck.

I almost picked-up the latest Avengers: The Initiative, what with the spidey-heavy Scarlet Spiders-based story with Peter Parker cameo, but decided against it... didn't look interesting enough. I might change my mind later and grab it, get used to the book before Ant-Man joins the team.

Bonus: New guy in the shop today, someone I didn't recognize as one of the usual Wednesday Night regulars. Turns out he was in the comic biz, writer of Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness and Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen. I should say Hi if he comes back next week.

What I Pulled This Week: Nov. 7, 2007

  • Astonishing X-Men #23
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #8
  • Howard the Duck #2
  • Mystic Arcana: Sister Grimm
  • New Avengers: Illuminati #5
  • Thor: Rebirth
  • Uncanny X-Men #492

As you can see, I’m pretty much a Marvel Fanboy… but hey, that’s what I grew-up with, and I’m too casual a fan to invest in a whole new universe. (I’ll gladly take suggestions on good, current titles though.)
