I have a house, a job, a car, a wife, a baby daughter, a bunch of pets, and now I’ll have some comics…my plan for slowly dominating the globe is precisely on track!

awesome profile pic man!

Robert says:

Be sure to let me know how you liked X Men Noir. I’m still on the fence whether I want to get it or not.

MattC says:

aw, sweet – blurbs finally work as intended in Google Chrome!

Sku Li says:

Wow! I have the exact same plan for dominating the world, enemy or conspirator?

pat514 says:

Hey man, how’d it go on the Morrison Marathon? I would love to hear how you far you got into The Invisibles and Seven Soldiers of Victory.

Anyway keep up the blog man, it’s great!

FrogMan says:

hey, just realized I never got back to you about Freedom Formula. I waited a bit after reading #1 cause it was mostly a setup issue and I was a bit unsure about it. Read #2 over the weekend and I thought it did a much better job of keeping me interested. Good setup of the sci-fi world, the art was also a bit more “followable” in that issue. The first one was a bit confusing with the illusion of fast movement given to the mechs. The story makes for a different kind of comics. I like it so far am probably in for the 5 issues of the first arc.

FrogMan says:

just received it on Friday and started reading it this afternoon (Saturday), interesting so far, although it’s a typical setup issue in that you get to know the background of the story. I’ll let you know when I’m done, most probably on Sunday…

Have an opinion about Freedom Formula? I’m considering adding it…

Beetle says:

Congrats on a new job! Just increase your TPB cosumption, and keep the lesson plans and paper grading to a minimum.

Aaron Thomas Nelson says:

Thanks Matt. Can’t wait for you to read Marlow.

MattC said:

Can’t wait for Marlow!

FrogMan says:

oh absolutely, it’s very well done. A second season is supposed to air this Fall. Looking forward to it. :)

MattC said:

lol, I ended up watching the whole first season over the last few days. My 8mo watched most of one episode, but I was really impressed at the quality of the show – it may be meant as a kids ‘toon, but any Spidey fan would like it, IMO

FrogMan says:

as I said, my 4yo is a big fan and while I’ve almost never sat down to watch an episode by myself, I’ve seen most of them. Good retelling of the Spidey mythos for today’s kids in my opinion…

MattC said:

I haven’t seen any episodes…yet (downloading is now in progress) :)

FrogMan says:

I love, love, love that new avatar of yours, the Venom of Spectacular Spider-Man. :) Are you a fan of the show? Both my sons love it, but my four year old is really into it. I cut the ads from the first 13 episodes that I had recorded as they came on and put them on three separate DVDs, they are in regular rotation at our house… :)

Beetle says:

Blurb reply with your email address and we’ll work out shipping those bags & boards.

Tyler says:

If “Threads” were one of the options you could choose to make lists of, I’d have a list of my favorite HI forum threads, and this would be in the top 5 at least three times.

That… is freaking awesome. I’m going to make that possible. I swear it.

Robert says:

Curse you for your awesome entry in the Zango contest.

TJIC says:

Nice avatar.

By the way, I live in Arlington, MA – just outside of Boston. ...and that’s where the guy who built the LED Mooninite that caused the bomb scare lives too.

About a week ago I was walking down a sidewalk, and I saw him.

I sounded like a bit of a dork, but I asked “Uh – hey! You’re the Aqua Teen guy, right?”

He said “yes”, and I said “nice work!”.

That’s my little story.

Tyler says:

Hah. Excellent new avatar. Never forget. :P

J4K3 says:

Thanks for the link! That is really good news, as Romita Jr is on of my favorite artists.

MattC said:

I really really enjoyed #549 – seemed very much like the Spidey I remembered and the stuff with Jackpot was well done. If I hadn’t gotten an email last night that 550 had already shipped, I would have picked it up today…still not totally sold on Mr. Negative, but Menace has some potential.

Romita confirms he’s returning to ASM in 2008 here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11717 but doesn’t say when – hopefully soon!

J4K3 says:

I’m very much impressed by the series at this point. I read somewhere, though, that John Romita Jr. is scheduled to draw ASM at some point this year. I hope that’s true!

MattC said:

re: OMD/BND…I was out of the comicsverse for quite some time, but read about the OMD controversy and have now ended up subscribing to ASM after finding heavyink – got the first two issues with 548 on the way and I’m really enjoying it so far

TJIC says:

Awesome info… thanks!

MattC said:

hey – go check out http://dreamcafe.com/firefly.html, where awesome scifi author Stephen Brust posted, for free, his own novel set in the ‘Verse (set between the end of Firefly and the events of the movie)

daynah says:

We never have had a GFB chaper at our school either.. We’re the first! :D We’re all running around like headless chickens. It’s fantastic!

MattC said:

congrats! we never had gamma phi beta at our campus, but I always heard good things about them from our chapters on other campuses!

Todd Michael R. says:

Yea haha JOIN ME!

MattC says:

heh, I was watching FBDO while composing some thoughts, when the Rooney-at-Casa-Bueller scene came on and I realized, “That would be much more interesting than whatever it was I was going to say anyway.”

Bueller…? Bueller…?

new job, more money, less time

by MattC at 01:43 PM on August 19, 2008 13:43

Like a lot of people, and therefore I assume, a lot of Inkers (edit: did I just imply Inkers aren’t people? Not intended!), my bank account doesn’t have a mutant regenerative ability, so I’ve been on the lookout for a career change as of late, and last Friday it happened – I was hired to teach 6th grade math and science, doubling my previous income (you know things were shaky when becoming a teacher is a huge step up, pay-wise) – we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars more per year…which means I’ve got a nice cash infusion to sink into comics, yeah?

Yeah…

I also now have exponentially less time to spend with said comics…between a 7 month certification program, planning for my daily classes, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very excited and grateful that life has taken this turn, but…

It’s like the sea-scarred hand of Irony has risen from it’s abyssal depths and slapped me, like Col. Gathers did to one Brock Samson in last week’s Venture Bros episode, not only reddening my cheek, but getting some of that good sea salt in there for good measure – YOU BRINY BASTARD!

Wow…don’t ask

and for the record – I’m no fan of math or science (as it’s taught in middle school at least) but I passed the subject exams, and I like having a job, so…yeah.

grats on the new job! I too will have a bit more money starting this Fall as I will start giving karate classes at a new dojo we are starting. Not as much more money you, but still any little bit helps pay for that addiction we call comic books… ;)
