Graphic Novels Reviews
A surprisingly good read. It looks cheesy and old school but the art is pretty good. The story seems to draw off of the old school cap who was around in the fifties.
This is a decent book that won’t dissappoint (unless you require copious amounts of violence).
Its been a while since I’ve read this but a few things come to mind in reflection.
This is not meant for the casual reader. If you aren’t up for reading fictional newspaper articles or a serious sunday comic about a pirate losing his mind (each being interspersed within the main tale) THEN you probably shouldn’t attempt this book until you can stomach that.
While I read the book each article/pirate story seemed like a speedbump in the middle of the story. I was often tempted to skip over them (and often skipped the articles to be honest)
Each character in the book gets their own spotlight time and given that there are quite a few you may not like a few of the chapters.
The monster at the end is the only truly distasteful moment I really had with the overall tale. I felt at the time that I was reading a serious story about a majority of themes and ethical dilemmas and then plop right towards the end there’s a giant plant monster or something.
This book had its ups and downs with me. I would not say it was bad and I wouldn’t say I didn’t like it but I really did not particularly care for it and is not in my eyes the classic so many have made it out to be.
