After reading the first issue I’m not sure what to make of this series. I don’t know who Misty Knight is and that seems to be the main character. I usually expect the author to fill me in on who is this and who is that (the lack of doing so in this title has me scratching my head for the lesser known characters)
Anyway it seems to me that this series is really just going for the popularity of the characters involved and squeezing as many as possible in.
Moon Knight, Falcon, Black Widow, Silver Sable, Paladin, and Misty Knight are in the first issue. Some big names some small.
I was more looking for the punisher but he is nonexistant. I would have liked to have seen him since he is character that is ussually at the bottom of the list in regards to teams. (though he doesn’t seem to mind being the last one picked for the game)
Anyway the first issue is very vague and at this point I cannot give an accurate review of what to expect from this series.
I guess this will be a bit of a warning then; if you don’t know a character keep wikipedia nearby.
3 stars mostly for not being new reader friendly.
This series is asking “What would happen if superheroes were organized by tasks not loose team affiliations?”. It is an interesting premise, and I am enjoying it a great deal. The art is good but standard. The characters are well formed and individual which is nice. Misty Knight has an agenda to stop bad guys from doing bad things. She doesn’t shoe-horn her friends into the situation but instead out sources jobs to the appropriately matched hero. Need a strong brawler with investigative skills? Call Paladin. Need something who can take on a supernatural evil that has caused lots of pain? Call Ghost Rider. Heroes work on the jobs for different reasons which is a strength of the book. Some are accessible for the money, some for the end goal, and others just to cause damage. It doesn’t matter to Misty why, only that it gets done. I applaud the writers for creating situations where heroes can have their own motivations and still work together. Each of the heroes’ moral compasses are kept intact, and not warped to fit the plot. Definitely worth the money, but I would skip to issue #3 or #2 when the writers have begun to establish the flow of the series.
