Rebels

This is my favorite comic book series of all time. I can’t say enough about it.

First off, REBELS is such a fun read. If you hate fun, this series is not for you. You don’t hate fun, do you?!? It is also the series that got me to dive headlong back into the amazing world of comics after a long hiatus. I couldn’t be happier to immerse myself once again.

Now for some specifics. Tony Bedard’s writing is pure genius. REBELS incorporates a myriad of planets and races in the DC universe, improving and building upon DC’s rich tapestry. Each issue has little snippets of info about the different races and planets featured, a little reminiscent of the fantastic newspaper segments found in the Rex Mundi series. Bedard’s exceptional creativity shines through such world building. I’m also a sucker for subplots, which are abundant in REBELS.

As for the art, Andy Clarke (who I hadn’t even heard of before) provides exquisite detail to the Bedard’s imaginative worlds. I know that this might sound a little too zealous, but trust me when I say that the team of Bedard and Clarke is right up there (if not greater than) with Johns and Van Sciver. While Claude St. Aubin is not quite as good as Clarke, he still does an admirable job that fits well with the tone of the book. Plus Scott Hanna’s inking is great and really takes St. Aubin’s work to the next level.

More people need to read this title!! It’s like a sad little polar bear floating away on an ice floe right now. We must band together to save it! Just give it a chance – you will not be disappointed!

One more thing…if you like Green Lantern Corps (and Mosaic!) LOSH LEGION (of course) Hickman’s Fantastic Four… then you’ll love REBELS
