24,131 comics; 24,851 GNs; 15,095 talents

Pat1337 [Member Since: January 06 '08]

I love reading comics, playing xbox 360, movies, and reading comics.

I got into comics around the end of 2006 when a friend introduced me to the Planet Hulk hardcover, and I’ve been sucked in to the Marvel and Dc universe ever since!

I mainly follow creators but I absolutely love everything Daredevil and will probably subscribe to it till I die.
Must reads according to me:

1.Daredevil: The Man Without Fear(f you Hal Jordan lol)

2.Daredevil Born Again

3.Daredevil: In and Out 1&2

4.Daredevil: Yellow

Must Owns:

Frank Miller’s Daredevil Omnibus

Frank Miller’s Daredevil Companion Omnibus

Brian Bendis’s Daredevil Omnibus 1&2

I haven’t read Pax Romana, it looks very unique. FF has some pretty standard superhero stuff going on like alt universes and monsters. There’s also good family stuff going on too. There is a flashback of Reed’s dad and I hear he makes an appearance is Hickman’s upcoming comic: S.H.I.E.L.D. FF is good stuff. I’d start with #570.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man, saw your review of Hickman’s current Fantastic Four run. I’m thinking of subbing and catching up on his run from the beginning and was wondering if you thought his run is like any of his previous work you might of read. I’m a huge fan of Pax Romana and if his FF run is anything like it, I’m sold.

Thanks

Hey, thanks pat514! I’m glad to be back. And yeah, I have to admit it’s all a bit of a shock to me trying to catch up on everything. But in an awesome kind of way, you know? :) I spend my days off reading tons of comics, and I’m loving it. Still have to catch up on DD though. I’ll put that one on my list for the next title. Thanks again!

Pat1337 said:

Hey glad to see your back man! I know you must still be in shock after going from no comics to back in the thick of it. Make sure you check out the Return of the King Daredevil arc man…it’s KILLER!!!

Also for any DD collector try and pick up the Marko Djurdjevic cover for DD #500. The issue is incredible and I was reading that the cover is Marko’s send off for his 25+ issue run with Brubaker and Lark (check out the words on the blood stained club playing card). The words are hard to make out on here but it says “fin de siecle” which means end of an era, that’s just awesome!!

Sweet, I read the whole Ennis Punisher run and the generals in the 8 page preview of Punisher MAX #1 are from one of the ennis arcs. Steve Dillion and Jason Aaron, it cant get better (Steve Dillion drew the preacher comic also an amazing ennis tale).

Is boarderlands on 360? I’m waiting for Call of Duty MW2 though, the COD comic looks pretty cool. “The game looks cooler”

I saw Midnight Meat Train a while ago its not bad, Clive Barker wrote the novel and he also did Hellraiser. You should watch a movie called Paranormal Activity. It’s like the blair witch project, but better.

oh, I also read in the back of Batman and Robin #4 that #6 would be a huge change in the DC universe, maybe Bruce will come back, I’m kinda tired of Grayson as Batman.

reply
Wolfy says:

Hey Pat, I’ve been playing the Uncharted 2 demo so much with my friends that its boring now…:)

The Marvel comics i’ve been reading are Dark Reign Zodiac which is awesome, and Strange Tales (really funny). I’m trying to avoid too much marvel cause of their MAX price increase, but Punisher #75 and Deadpool #900 look too good to pass up.

Also I can’t forget the Punisher #11 Frankencastle arc and the new Max punisher title by Jason Aaron.

reply
Wolfy says:

I’ve been reading Batman and Robin (sweet art) and Blackest Night also.

You getting any crossovers to Blackest Night? I’m picking up BN: Batman and Green Lantern. I think i’ll pass on the BN: Superman.

Batman Confidential started a cool arc about Batman Fighting Crime in Russia.

reply
Wolfy says:

Hey Pat,ya the Baltimore comic looks sweet. I got Battlefield 1943 (flying the planes are my fave) and i’ve also been playing Fat Princess (it’s really funny). I have The goon #3-5 (got em back when I started comic collecting) and dethklok vs the goon was great (love the show), it really captured Metalocalypse.

Are you gonna get the Batman Arkham Asylum game? I’m hoping to rent it.

reply
RobertS says:

The first and second are really good. I haven’t gotten the third one yet because of my shipping schedule, but a friend of mine says that it’s okay.

Pat1337 said:

Hey I just got back into Green Lantern and was wondering what you thought of Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps?

reply view context
Josh says:

Yeah, I’d read that it was gonna be somewhere between 6 and 10, but I wasn’t sure how many. Still, it’s so damned good I was planning to stick with it til the end. It’s got that mythical, magical, endlessly re-readable quality to it.

Pat1337 said:

Nice dude!

I’ve read the first two Pluto volumes so far and I gotta agree with you, they have been fantastic! I really dig the depth added by Urasawa to character Atom.

Especially the scene at the end of volume two, where Urasawa shows Atom’s struggle of battling complex challenges and opponents and the need for the support of his home and family.

Pluto is only 8 volumes by the way!

reply view context
Josh says:

Just a follow-up to a blurb you wrote me a few months back: I’ve read the first three Pluto books and LOVE THEM. Seriously, it’s probably my favorite book out right now. I’ve also read the first two 20th Century Boys and the first 6 Monsters. I want to keep going, but committing to 24 volumes each…in this economy…I might cave in and read em online like an asshole. Still, thanks so much for the Urasawa recommendation!

Pat1337 said:

Hey man,
The reviews have been great! The black jack review especially peaked my interest.

Have you read any work by Naoki Urasawa? I’m reading Pluto and 20th Century Boys and judging for your reviews it definitely seems like something up your alley.

Anyway keep up the great work!

RobertS says:

It pretty much all starts during the Sinestro Wars. You could pick up those two trades (you could probably skip the Origin story that comes right after it in GL) and that’s where Rage of the Red Lanterns picks up. For GLC you can probably skip the story arc after Sinestro Wars (basically Mongul gets a Yellow Ring) and start off at GLC#29 which starts off Sins of the Star Sapphires. But definately pick up the 2 Sinestro War trades b/c not only is it just plain awesome, it lays the foundation for Blackest Night.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man,

I thought the preview for Green Lantern Corps #32 (the faces of evil one) was fantastic!
I definitely want to start picking this book up, wheres a good place to start?

I’d mainly like to learn about the different colored lanterns, so if you know when that starts tell me.

I haven’t read Shrapnel yet, but maybe I’ll do that now.

I watch/read some anime and manga, but not a whole lot. I didn’t care for the Berserk anime, but maybe I should try the manga. I’m a big fan of 3×3 Eyes (which Dark Horse canceled), Ghost in the Shell, and Planetes.

If you have a car, I’d go with the Inn. The rooms are fairly nice, and it’s great not having to share a bathroom with half of a floor. However, the bus schedule can be a pain if you don’t have your own transportation.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man,

Did you finish Shrapnel #1 yet? I finished it over the weekend and I thought it was great!

I really thought the writing was top notch and that there was a ton of content in this issue.

My only complaint is that some panels were a little to dark, but other than that I thought it was great.

BeetleBooster says:

Hey, dunno when you sent this, sorry if I’m way behind. Anyhow, you could maybe start with issue 19 or maybe 29 if you wanted something more current. 19 picks up after the Sinestro Corps wars ends, 29 starts the beginning of the Sins of the Star Sapphire arc. If you start with 19 you’ll understand all the stuff with Mongol that seems to be ongoing. Just my thoughts. Enjoy :-)

Hey man, sorry I’m getting back to you so super late but since Final Crisis is done. I must say I LOVED it. Truthfully, it’s the perfect love letter to the DC Universe and super-heroes in general. It’s kind of hard to read super-heroes book now cause none will have a message that rivals what FC achieved.

That said, Flash: Rebirth by a long shot. I can’t wait for series.

FrogMan says:

Monster has made me a big fan of Naoki Urasawa. His storytelling is second to none. He can work the suspense up and have you not be able to put down the book and keep you wanting to know what’s next. See my latest blog post about 20th Century Boys, his next series to be published, starting at some point in February. Looks to be different, yet very interesting. Viz Media will also be starting the releases of another Urasawa series, Pluto, about a world where robots and human share the world. I will be getting that one too and will post something about in my blog post shortly. Reading about Pluto has made me aware of Astro Boy and I may end up checking that one too.

As for Mangas, I can’t vouch for all publishers but my Monster books, published by Viz Media and bought through HeavyInk have all been shipped within almost exactly two weeks of my order dates. At one point, they were unable to get Volume 4 so I got it from Amazon, but it looks like all volumes of Monster are available here for now.

Pat1337 said:

Hey, I remember you discussing the manga Monster a while back. Well my friend, showed me a few episodes from the adapted anime series. The series is absolutely fantastic.
I was wondering if the author’s next work that just came out, is just as good?

Also, how is the ordering experience been as far as manga is concerned? What’s the turn around in your experience and was it difficult to get some books?

Pete says:

Hmmm. Good question! I really liked I Kill Giants, but it’s done… Four Eyes #1 was great, but the series seems dead… House Of Mystery has been solid, same with Unknown Soldier. Mysterius The Unfathomable #1 was a pleasant surprise, we’ll see how it continues. Still not sure about Shrapnel #1, but it was definitely good enough that I’ll read another issue or two. Less time to read these days, so I need to be reading good stuff!

Pat1337 said:

Hey Pete,

I was wondering what your favourite book on your pull list right now? Quantum Adventures sounds pretty cool and I’m considering checking out Hotwire since I thought Shrapnel was great.

yea dude Killzone 2 looks amazing, I used to play killzone 1 on ps2, so im excited. I already pre ordered.
I wish there was a Killzone comic, years ago ther was supposed to be one but the publisher closed before they could release it.

Resistance 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are also great games for pS3.

Wolfy says:

Hey Pat, Mr Stuffins does look pretty cool but when I subscribed it only registered the old #2 version instead of the reprint #1 in April, I might wait until more solicitations come out before subing again. I’ll let you know how it is.

Did u mean the Wanted movie or the graphic novel? Cause the only good thing about the movie was Angelina Jolie. :)

reply
Devin says:

I know what you mean about the anime and manga fans. I’m not sure why people separate manga and Western comics so much. I had a hard time getting my roommate to read any comics, but he’d gladly read manga people recommended. I finally got him hooked on Transmetropolitan, but it took a lot of effort.

I’m not sure if I can pick a favorite right now. I really wish I could say one the X-Books, but all of them are fairly disappointing. Ultimate Spider-Man is the most consistently fun book, but it’s not as good as it used to be.

Doktor Sleepless might end up being a classic in the same vein as Transmetropolitan, but I don’t think it serializes very well. Echo and RASL have both been really good, but they don’t come out often enough.

Honestly, I’ve been falling behind on a lot of titles. I’ve been reading a lot more classics. I recently read through about 100 issues of Claremont’s X-Men run, Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle, Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, and Elektra: Assassin, and I can easily see why they’re classics.

reply
Erik says:

Yea man, it was incredible. I’ve been loving the entire series and what Morrison has done to make Darkseid truly the physical embodiment of evil in the DCU, and Batman breaking his one vow to shoot the god of evil was so cool. And his, “Hh gotcha” was just a perfect little quip to send him on his way.

Hey Pat, glad to hear you are enjoying Preacher. I think the 3rd trade has more issues packed into it, so to save money they used cheap paper, not sure about the other trades.

I read the first 3 and I’m looking for the rest. The 3rd TPB gets very crazy and twisted, in a good way.

The Preacher Reprints have a introduction from writers/celebrities(the ones that I have). I’m not sure if anything else was added.

Enrique says:

I usually support Vertigo monthlies because they usually do outstanding stuff. This one is by one of my favorite creators so I am biased. I think it is a little surrealist and that is not for everybody. At this point in the series you dont know what is real or what is imagined by the main characters. That can be offputting to many readers. I cannot tell you that you should go back to the title but maybe you should get the first tpb and see if you are into the surrealist narratives. There is nothing wrong if you do not like it.

Hey man, I saw you are subbed to Young Liars and I was thinking about picking it up again. I stopped with issue #4 because it really had sort of freaked me out, especially the whole old people cruise ship scene.

I live and breathe the Ultimate Universe. The only things I haven’t read are things that I’m awaiting the trades on which is Ultimates 3 and U. Human. I’ve heard bad things about U.3 but I don’t let it get me down, I have very low standards. It only gets even better in Ultimates 2 where it really hits the fan.

Awesome call on the Darth Bane books. I just finished reading them the other day and they were really good. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever read a SW book that focused on the Sith character.

Pat1337 said:

I remembered you recommended that I pick up the Ultimates hc’s, dude awesome call! I’ve been reading and loving this books so much. Hey Pat, I got to reading Unknown Soldier, and it was decent but not quite as good as I was expecting from the preview I read. I think the main character’s story felt a little bit forced… but there’s definitely potential and I’ll give #2 a shot.

Pat1337 said:

Hey, thanks man! I’ll definitely give it a go for a semester. I’m not sure how far you were able to advance but some of the sparring/belt tests up on youtube looks killer.

I read up a bit on Aikido and I really respect the passive/non-aggressive philosophy of it.

I saw that you are checking out Unknown Soldier, the comcept/back story of the book sounds pretty damn cool. I’d love to hear what you think of it!

reply view context
RobertS says:

That part does lag a bit but I would keep going especially since that’s only the second (I think) out of seven books. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get hooked on the series and like it all the way up to the last page or two of the last book. Stephen King needs a retcon…

Pete says:

Hey Pat, Saw your Aikido related blurb to FrogMan… I studied Aikido for a short time, and loved it (needed to stop because of an unrelated shoulder injury, never restarted, should…). It’s probably not the martial art most strongly focused on pure self-defense, but it’s great for a mix of that with just generally developing great total-body physical skills. Definitely try it if you get the chance.

Wolfy says:

Hey man, Taken looks cool. Where did you watch it? It says it come out in Jan of 09.

I saw a movie a few days ago that scared the liveing shit out of me called The Strangers, check it out. Hellraiser is such a classic gorefest, there are about 9 different movies, I’ve seen em all.

The Joker OGN looks sick also. I’ve never really been into Superman, too much of a boy scout for me.

FrogMan says:

I’ve not formally taken any Aikido classes although we do learn some of it as part of the self-defense part of our kenpo class. I really like it what I’ve seen of it though and it would probably be a style I’d like to learn more about if I had more time.

If you are interested in learning some self-defense, you could do much worse than aikido, that’s for sure…

Max payne was a sick game; loved it. You gonna see the movie? I am.

Some gritty movies with a gritty story like Max Payne in my opinion are: Constantine, From Hell, Gangster no 1,
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (my fav), Trainspotting, Ravenous, Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight, Bully, Dark City, Hellraiser and CHOPPER search these movies on IMDB.com.
All very gritty films.

Some comics would be Impaler, ’76, Cthulhu Tales, Necromonicon, Locke and Key, Preacher, Gravel and Fool Killer.

I’m a big movie buff; Sci-Fi, Horror, Crime, Thriller etc..

I’ve been waiting for Dead Space and Brothers in Arms to be returned back to blockbuster for over a week now. I have Oblivion and I hate it. Fallout 3 looks cool but it seems a little silly for me.

I gave up on Star Wars after Episode 2.
Too much Lucas psycho babble. I always loved the episode 4,5,6 trilogy, that oldschool vibe.

I’m thinking about getting the new Call of Duty World at War game but the one that is a definite buy will be Killzone 2 in Feb.

Did you play Dead Space yet? I’m still waiting for the shithead to return it to blockbuster. That and Brothers in Arms: HH, blockbuster canada is the worst for renting games.

I should start renting online.

I was surprised with my enjoyment of Action Comics. I’ve never really been a superman fan. The Christopher Reeves movies and Smallville, I always liked, but the comics seemed too cheesy and/or boring to me. I also have all the current All-Star Supermans though. I really liked the beginning and now the end of the run, but a lot in the middle were pretty unimpressive to me. In fact I’m not even sure why I started reading Action, but I’m glad I did.

As far as Deadpool goes. #1 doesn’t come out till September 3, so I’m anxiously waiting. I don’t expect the writing to be all that impressive, but Deadpool is always a fun character for me to read no matter who’s doing the story, and this one has the ability to be better than normal, so we’ll see.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man, glad to see another person who is really digging Action Comics! I absolutely love the art on the book, are you a fan of having Clark look similar to Christopher Reeves? For me I couldn’t have it any other way after seeing it in Action Comics.

I would have never considered myself a fan of superman, even all star superman I’m sort of impartial toward, but it seems like anything Geoff Johns writes is sure to be a hell of a book.

How was Deadpool #1 by the way? I loved the Cable & Deadpool series, so I’m pretty curious to see how Deadpool solo turns out.

Overall I think Pax Romana is Hickman’s strongest work but The Nightly News is a close second.

I haven’t read “V” or “League”… yet. Probably cause I watched the movies?? I picked up League a couple of years ago, but haven’t got to it yet. I have been eyeballing Black Dossier.

If you want to check out a cool TPB, not for the writing, but the artwork, get Batman, Arkham Asylum – the art is done by Dave McKean (Sandman Covers, Wolves in the Walls, MirrorMask [DVD], etc.), check it out… Nice diversion from typical comic cell art. Right now, I am sort of immersing myself in some older Kirby & Ditka stuff, right now… These are the Gods (along with Stan Lee). I just read the first “House of Mystery”, that looks like a promising series, too.

Bottom line is that I find it very hard to put my finger on what is good. Stuff I discard as cheese or fluff or shallow speed-volume production noise, I can come back to with some insight or epiphany and really enjoy. Then, there is a lot material that will just never be redeemable on any aesthetic plane.

I started reading Tank Girl: The Gifting, art by Ashley Wood (a favorite of mine) and I thought it absolutely sucked. The writing was gutter trash and art was on the hyper-cheap… I picked it up again and thumbed through it slowing, just looking for any kind of handle to explain why such garbage would printed and distributed… And, I found myself laughing and really enjoying all the screened, pixelated, scribbled artwork. The writing was so over-the-top irreverent… and I was laughing. What can I say? It was a great mini-series, that just took me awhile to warm up to.
So, last parting shot… Did you read and follow the “Y: The Last Man” series? That was SO damn good. And, those JG Jones covers… Damn.

Comics. It’s a big world. And, they are no longer fringe entertainment, that’s for sure.

Gotta run.

Hey dude, happy future birthday! Mine is actually tomorrow, so we can celebrate together. :) I’ve actually stayed away from the Absolute Editions of stuff, though the Batman ones are SO tempting. What I did splurge on was the Captain America OmniBus that came out late last year. It was awesome. And I don’t just mean the stories. The large hardcover book was just great to read. It was certainly a different type of experience than reading the floppies it contained. I loved it. I haven’t read Kingdom Come yet, but I have it. New Frontier is a MUST read if you haven’t yet, as is Justice. I have the Justice hardcovers. In my opinion, you have to like the character, the writer, and the artist to make the purchase worth it. So you’ll have to determine that for yourself. But you should read this review of Kingdom Come.

While I consider New Frontier a must for any DC fan, the hardcover is not IMHO. Just go with the two volume trades. So here’s what I would get:

1) Absolute Kingdom Come
2) New Frontier Vol. 1
3) New Frontier Vol. 2
4) Justice Vol. 1
5) Justice Vol. 2
6) Justice Vol. 3
7) The Ultimates Vol. 1
8) The Ultimates 2

In that order. What can I say, I’ve always been a DC guy. :) Enjoy!

Can’t say much about Young Liars so far because even though it’s not listed among the latest addition to my pull list, it’s a fairly recent one. I’ve not even recieved one issue of it, only read a preview in Hellblazer #243. I’d read good reviews about it and that 8 page preview was enough for me to give it a shot. Art is a bit similar to Y: the last man.

Other than Y: The last Man, which I’m slowly working my way through via trades, my Vertigo titles are all recent additions to my pull list. Hellblazer is the all-star title. I’m a big John Constantine fan and #243 was a great issue.

Hi patk514. That’s great that you want to try out Linux. I too am very new to it though. Actually, the people that got me started on it are Tyler and daynah, right here from HI. :) They are much more experienced at it. But anyway, I would go with Ubuntu, and you might as well go with the latest release, 8.04. It has a feature that allows you to install it without affecting your current setup. It also comes with a handy uninstall feature. So it’s pretty much risk free. Just one note from experience, I had to install it in SAFE mode, as my graphics card is not supported by the default setup of Ubuntu. I have to then update the driver after Ubuntu is installed. (Well, actually, what I did was install 7.10 then upgrade to 8.04 because I did it when 8.04 first came out and I couldn’t contact the server to download the full version as it was too busy at the time. So as far I as I know, 8.04 could have supported the graphics card by default.) Anyway, good luck! Any questions, feel free to let me know. I have a huge book on Ubuntu that I use for reference. And Tyler and daynah have been great for questions too. Hopefully they won’t mind me volunteering them for service! LOL

Don’t know much about what’s involved in this Final Crisis and I fear I’ll be lost if I simply pick up the Final Crisis mini series. What would you say you’ve been enjoying the most from your pull so far(your “top of the stack” so to speak)?
Maleev’s work on Daredevil, with Brian Bendis writing I thought, was amazing! I ended up picking up the hardcovers liking it so much, so I can’t wait for Maleev to be back on Daredevil(even if its a cameo or whatnot).
Btw I read my friends copy of SI #1 great stuff, can’t wait to see where it goes!

I had not seen the preview until now as I try to stay away from stuff I will definitely pull but I just checked it, interesting stuff. Can’t say I have an opinion on Maleev though. I know the name but have not read many of the books he’s worked on.

  1. looks to be certainly a good jumping on point, as they kick off the tie-ins with Secret Invasion after ending the arc pencilled by Mark Bagley.

Interesting though that the preview I saw (from Make Mine Marvel) had Daredevil in it. DD has never been in the Mighty Avenger before… Looking forward to it very much. :)

Your enthusiasm for DD is one of the things that convinced me to jump on board and pull DD. I started with The Annual and #106…

Red Mass for Mars is an odd duck… it was solicited, but then cancelled, supposedly because “it’s such a great book that we really need to promote it more”, so it’s going to be solicited again some day… in fact, issue #1 doesn’t exist yet! It might be out in another two months… and issues #2 and #3 haven’t been resolicited yet. I should mark them as available, so people can still subscribe…

Pat1337 said:

Wow man, can’t believe Red Mars for Mass is doing so well. Do you think you guys will be getting more stock for issues 2 and 3?

I’m waiting for the trade. The whole idea sounds really interesting.

That does sound like a fun game. Makes me wish I had more free time. I haven’t been able to turn my DS on in over a month.

Pat1337 said:

Damn, you got daredevil on the quiz! I tried three times to get that, heh. Hey are you picking up secret invasion #1 wedenseday, waiting for the trade, or not bothering with the whole thing?

I haven’t been following Mighty Avengers or New Avengers, but its so hard to say no to the massive hype they built up for it, lol.

By the way, if you get a chance Hotel Desk for the DS has a really great story, and it sorta reminds me of Phoenix Wright. The game is real heavy on the story and not so much on the gameplay, but it’s still totally worth checking out.

Hey, thanks for writing!

Well, I can give reviewing Thor a try. I’ve never reviewed anything on HeavyInk before, oddly enough. I have issues 3-6 in front of me, but I’m still on my Cap catch-up run. I’m about to start 18 and I’m reading through to 21 then I’ll take a break from that. I’ve heard nothing but good things about The Twelve. I really must check that out.

Pat1337 said:

Hey, I’ve been reading Thor and so far its been great. The first two issues are rather slow but from three and out the book has been really really fantastic. It’s great the bond and trust between Blake and Thor, and I think it really makes the run unique.

Anyway, post a review and put up what you thought of it so far. I haven’t really heard anyone knock jms since the one more day debacle, but his books, Thor and The Twelve, have really been some of the best stuff on the shelves.

hey, I just saw your comment on my blog re: Locke & Key. Thanks for the link to G4TV, that was a good review and pretty accurate of what that first issue was like. I’m also pretty new to the comics scene but I gotta say, Locke has a feel like not many other books I’ve read…

One of my favorite parts of Planet Hulk was when the bug metamorphed into the giant warrior guy. I really liked the art on that guy after that.
I’m really looking forward to World War Hulk. I know it’s been out in issues for a long time, but I prefer reading things in trades. I think there’s about four or five trades coming out for WWH soon, and I have 3 of them on pre-order (I really couldn’t care less about Gamma Corps :P).

Thanks for showing me that Venture art, that was pretty neat. I wish that guy had one of Hank and Dean doing “Mecha-Shiva!!”

By the way, I love your profile picture.

“What the hell are we supposed to do with this crap? Make them laugh so hard they blow malt liquor out of their noses?”

“No, I think you’ll have that covered when you storm the room in butterfly costumes.”

Hey, saw you were into Wolverine a bit and was wondering if you checked out the new logan book?I’m not a fan of Wolverine usually, but Logan #1 that came out last week was AMAZING. I would highly reccommend you pick up #1 and stay with it for the run (its only going to be a 3 issue mini), but if you love historical settings/twist with the Wolverine, Logan #1 is damn good. The writing in it is fantastic as well, Brian K. Vaughn does a flawless job, and his work really reads well in issues. http://heavyink.com/comic/3168-Logan-1

Wait, I just re-read your message and realized that I missed something the first time. Just how long is Kick-Ass going to be?

Pat1337 said:

Dude Kick Ass was unbelievably awesome last week. I can’t wait for the next issue, I’m glad Millar decided to make it more than a 6 issue miniseries. I really like the art on Hulk though I haven’t picked up issue 2 yet.

Heh, by the way did the kid in Kick Ass sort of remind you of Matt Murdock in the man without fear mini romita did?

Have you checked out immortal iron fist btw, its a Matt Fraction/Ed Brubaker book and man it is really really damn good. The art in it is amazing too (done by David Aja), ya gotta check it out.

I’m waiting to receive Kick-Ass #1 as I type this. Cannot wait!! And as far as appearance goes, the kid does remind me of Matt Murdock. I’ve read the first TPB of Immortal Iron Fist and am impressed. Might read some more soon.

Thanks, patk514. Green Lantern is both a big adventure and kind of dark and intense at times. Sinestro is Lecter in this run, and I can’t tell in words how frakking cool that is.

All the Batman books have been awesome as well.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man! You got some really great stuff on your pull list. I wonder how good the green lantern that came out this week? Reviews so far have said its been awesome. Detective and Logan look great too, gotta love bkv.

FrogMan says:

hey, thanks for your suggestions. I had completely forgotten about Ronin, but you are right. I remember reading about it, thought I had added it to my wish list, but seems I simply forgot. Same thing with Daredevil and Elektra, both well versed in martial arts. Maybe more so Elektra, but Daredevil’s got the moves that are very martial artish (just made up the word here, heh)…

I don’t watch much samurai movies so I couldn’t comment on your picks, sorry.

I’ve taken note of the Thor recommendation. Might pick up a trade at some point.

Pat1337 said:

Hey man awesome pull list, I recently got into comics myself and man I’m having a blast. I’m a huge brubaker fan myself and I’m absolutely loving Daredevil, Criminal, and Iron Fist.

I saw a little info on the lone wolf and cub deal, I havent read it myself but I heard its great. If you want to read Frank Miller’s take on the samurai(in a futuristic crazy setting) I recommend checking out Ronin. Its a crazy book and definitely bizzare, but in retrospect I think its a fantastic read.

I’d love to hear your picks for samurai films as well! My personal favorite are Sword of Doom, Yojimbo, and probably Zatoichi(the new one).

A really great book to check out, though not a samurai or martial arts book, is JMS’s Thor. It’s on issue 6 right now and man this book is really mature and a great book to jump onto. The art is really fantastic and the story as well. It’s definitely going to be one that people talk about.

Ultimates 3 is definitely on the list to be reviewed, I just need to wait for the trade to come out first (that’s how I prefer most comics). My ‘reviewing project’ is something I have a lot of interest in, but unfortunately cannot put the time into it right now. This is something I don’t want to half-ass. Thanks for showing an interest.

Thanks for the heads-up…I do read Scalped in trade and enjoy it greatly. I’ll probably check out Aaron’s stuff at Marvel in trade, especially his Wolverine, as I’m already reading that series in trade (I loved Marc Guggenheim’s recent work on the title).

Pat1337 said:

Hey man, I saw a few reviews you have up on here, glad other people like northlanders as well. Anyway I dunno if you follow Jason Aaron’s stuff at all but Scalped might be something you’d be into, also he took over Wolverine and Ghost Rider, and they’ve both been great.

Definitely check out Ghost Rider 20 if you can, I’ve never been a fan of the character but the new issue is just incredibly awesome and refreshing.

I got the 2nd issue of the Twelve and really like it. I think I’ll keep reading it for awhile. Check out the TPB of the new Spirit. It includes a great Batman team-up. I haven’t read any of the new Aragones issues yet, but I loved him on Groo, so I’ll give it a chance.

Pat1337 said:

Hey nice to see people checking out the twelve. Did you decide to stick with it? I was also planning on checking out the Spirit, since I read a few issues from the best of trade at the library, worth checking out the new stuff?
