Welcome to the HeavyInk newsletter - our first one ever!
We're going to be using it to talk about what's new in the comics world, what we're reading (and, you know, what we think YOU should be reading), pointing out cool things on the web, and more.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There are lots of images in this newsletter - please tell your newsreader to display them (and to display them in all HeavyInk newsletters)!
I've been loving the Walking Dead since the early days. No, that's not intended as an elitist "I was wearing black before it was cool" statement - I'm THRILLED at how popular TWD is getting.
If you're not yet a fan, the best way to see what all the fuss is about is to pick up one of the graphic novels. I suggest starting with #1, of course.
If you're already a fan, you probably started, as I did, with floppies. Isn't now the time to upgrade your collection to nice, ad-free, graphic novels?
CONCEPT: An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living. THIS VOLUME: Rick Grimes is not prepared for this. A couple months ago he was a small town cop who had never fired a shot and only ever saw one dead body. Separated from his family he must now sort through the death and confusion to try and find his wife and son. Collects THE WALKING DEAD #1-6. RETAILER WARNING: MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES

Why am I pimping this GN? To be brutally honest, I've never read it ... but we programmed this newsletter tool to display preview images, when we have them, and I wanted to show that feature off and get a bit of feedback.
We'd love to have previews for most - or all - of the stuff we mention in this newsletter. We can either do that by throwing more back office labor at it, or we can get fancier and encourage members of the HeavyInk community to upload previews from books that they're enthusiastic about. We'd have to come up with some way to reward folks, of course - maybe better access to rare incentive covers? Tell me what you think.
In the aftermath of his battle with CONQUEST, Invincible and his world are left in ruins. He's faced with questions he doesn't know how to answer about his future as a hero and what is needed to actually protect the people of Earth. Meanwhile: deep in space, Nolan and Allen the Alien are making preparations for the impending VILTRUMITE WAR! This volume is not to be missed! Collects INVINCIBLE #66-70 and INVINCIBLE RETURNS #1

HeavyInk user Dan turned me onto this great three part interview with Gerhard (the guy who did all the backgrounds for Cerebus).
For those sick of talking politics (and who isn't?), you can relax - as best I can tell, Gerhard - unlike Dave Sim - is completely apolitical.
