Gems Hidden in the Haystack

Any one into fantasy novels or role-playing will enjoy this book. It’s like reading a vaudeville act in fantasy clothing. The jokes are good and often spoof the structure of the fantasy genre.
For example, in one strip one of the characters attempts to pick up a dark elf. Flattery doesn’t work, but the “dead” flesh eating termite eating its way up his arm stokes the dark elf’s passion. Another skewers the concept of checking every 5 feet for doors and objects.
The real value is the jokes don’t lose their charm. Even though you know the punchline, the connection to situations you are familiar with keeps the humor alive.

Raunchy and sad and engaging. These are great characters with definite moral failings. But, as cliche as it is, they have a core of of humanity that makes each character worth caring about.

Zogonia is one of my6 favorites when it comes to RPG/fantasy humour. I also love Femme Noir. I’ve never read Vinyl Underground. Based on that, I’m ordering Vinyl Underground. The chances I’ll love it seem pretty high.
