What is this list?

This is a list, in no particular order, of comics I would recommend any comics fan – or non-comics fan – read at least once. I’ll stick to stuff I have actually read, rather than include stuff I’ve only heard is good. I will try to list collected editions, since they’re easier to find, even though I read most of these in single-issue format.

I stopped reading Batman shortly after this (I lost interest in Az-Bat and quit collecting before Bruce’s return), but I remember the issues contained in this one as being an excellent character study on Batman.

Venture back in time to when super heroes were just plain fun.

    More excellent Lone Ranger adventure.

“There is a weapon in the universe more powerful than all others. No more coveted, feared, loved, or hated thing exists. Only a fool, or a madman – or the right man – would dare possess… the Star Brand!”

Dark Horse’s first venture into the Star Wars galaxy, and an example of how well Star Wars comics can be done.

Seriously, who doesn’t love a smart-@$$ robot? Best line: “I didn’t found this crazy organization to NOT nuke things.”

An excellent updating of the Lone Ranger legend. One of my all time favorite characters.

When I first read this comic, it scared the crap out of me.

Marketing ploy or not, this is the best Superman story I’ve ever read. The aftermath and return were not near as epic as Superman’s demise, and honestly, if Superman had ended here, I would have been satisfied.

The first trade paperback I ever bought, and the first comic story to ever make me say “that’s the best comic I ever read!” I still have yet to read a better X-Men story.
