Jason's Tropical Island List

This List is by...

Jason Copland

This lists's score:

Bullet_arrow_up Bullet_arrow_down 4 pts.

What is this list?

These are the books I’d like to have with me if I was stranded on a tropical island. Some are single books, some are full runs. It’s in no real order, other than Frank Miller’s RONIN is my #1…

  • 20.
Frank Miller Sin City Library Ii
    Jason Copland says:

Sin City starts off with a bang. I LOVE the first few books but then they gets a little repetitious. Still, those first few are solid books.

  • 19.
    Stray Bullets Vol. 2
    Jason Copland says:

Sadly, David Lapham still hasn’t finished this series. The stuff he has done is wonderful, though.

  • 18.
    Complete Popbot
    Jason Copland says:

Absolutely no story here… but Ashely Wood draws so well, I don’t even notice… well, maybe a little.

  • 17.
Hellboy Vol. 1 Seed Of Destruction Book & Figure Boxed Set
    Jason Copland says:

Mike Mignola has my money. A lot of it. Hellboy is a hoot! Stories rich in tradition and art work rich in black ink. More black ink on a page than any other title in history!

  • 16.
    Orion The Gates Of Apokolips
    Jason Copland says:

This book should have lived on for way more issues! Sometimes there is no justice.

  • 15.
Thor Visionaries Walt Simonson Vol. 1
    Jason Copland says:

Walter Simonson’s run on Thor will always be the definitive version of the Thunder God. I used to run to my local comic shop in anticipation of the next issue. Good times.

  • 14.
Lone Wolf & Cub Vol. 1 The Assassins Road
    Jason Copland says:

This one of the books that Frank Miller used as inpiration for his masterpiece, RONIN. I can see why Miller was so moved by it.

  • 13.
    Elektra By Frank Miller Omnibus
    Jason Copland says:

Here’s another book that has it all. Beautiful art and wickedly sharp story and dialogue. Miller and Sienkiewicz were in the zone.

  • 12.
    Marquis Vol. 1 Limited Hc
    Jason Copland says:

I’m a HUGE Guy Davis fan. This book was my first introduction to him. I’m stoked to hear that he will be working on more Marquis books in the near future!

  • 11.
Robotika: For A Few Rubles More #1
    Jason Copland says:

What can I say about Alex Sheikman’s Robotika? Wonderfully illustrated and written. That’s all that needs to be said, really.

  • 10.
Big Guy & Rusty The Boy Robot
    Jason Copland says:

Geoff Darrow’s art is so fully realized that I don’t mind that the story is a little on the light side. The extra stuff at the end is really cool, too.

  • 9.
    Zombies Vs Robots Vs Amazons
    Jason Copland says:

Ashley Wood could sneeze on a piece of paper and it would look amazing. It’s a fun read too, though.

  • 8.
    Perhapanauts
    Jason Copland says:

I LOVE this book. Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau put so much love and fun in this book it oozes out!

  • 7.
    Walking Dead
    Jason Copland says:

The only book that is currently coming out that I NEED to read when it shows up at my door! I will say that I was (and still am to some extent) sad to see Tony Moore leave this book. But, Charlie Adlard has won me over and the book is a must read.

  • 6.
    Cerebus
    Jason Copland says:

Dave Sim had me right up until the last 2 “phone books” of Cerebus. It starts off as a sharp Conan parody book but blossoms into soooo much more. The first 4 trades are some of the most funny and interesting political satire I’ll ever read.

  • 5.
    Age Of Bronze
    Jason Copland says:

I hope writer/artist Eric Shanower can finish this title before he passes on. I don’t mean that is a morbid way, really. It’s just that it takes him a long time to do this book (he’s only 3/7th finished and it’s taken him about 10 years to get that far). Looking inside, you’ll see why. Beautiful drawings full of emotion and grace.

  • 4.
    Y The Last Man
    Jason Copland says:

An amazing read from start to finish.

  • 3.
    Batman Dark Knight Returns
    Jason Copland says:

The cold war backdrop is a little dated (although getting less dated, it seems), but the writing and art are top notch.

  • 2.
    Watchmen Tp
    Jason Copland says:

A very dense comic book. But in a very very good way.

  • 1.
    Absolute Ronin
    Jason Copland says:

The one book I can say is my all time favorite. This is Miller at his groundbreaking best. The kid gloves are off and it’s all right there on the page.
