“While sci fi fans don’t mind (and often excel at) criticizing their sci fi shows, they are generally only supportive of criticizing that focuses on “literary” details—plot holes, bad writing, continuity in the canon, inconsistent application of science. But as soon as you start talking about the bigger structures in a show’s texts, like racist logic, sexism, classism, whatever, some douchey white dudes with serious entitlement issues are going to dismiss you. (It’s actually sort of funny, because they can’t really, like the rest of the world of douchey white dudes, tell you you’re reading too much into the show, or taking the show too seriously, because ten minutes ago, they were posting about insignificant detail x in an episode that aired 20 years ago.) If I complain about the complete lack of plot in Avatar, for example, I’ll hear murmurs of consent in a room full of geeks. If I say Avatar is inexcusably racist, however, that same room will suddenly get defensive.”

Same opinion on the new Hold Steady; a few good songs, but not like their previous albums. As for LOST, I think I lost caught of how many times I had to explain that they are not all dead.I am really looking forward to Jeff Lemire writing The Atom backup for Adventure Comics, and writing the new Superboy book. He might make me buy those books! ;)

PS: If you like The Hold Steady you need to listen to The Gaslight Anthem. Same genre, they are from Jersey, and just good old Springsteen rock-and-roll.

Did you know that originally Jack was supposed to die in the first episode of Lost? Kate was going to be the hero/anchor. Maybe if they had gone that way, Kate would be more like Blythe and then everyone wouldn’t hate her so much! (Not that I don’t enjoy actively rooting against Kate.)
Really! Wow, that would have changed so much of the series. The season 5 finale was mind-blowing, I’m still re-watching a LOT of it. I really like how the episode completely changed Lost, from mystery/survival to a more religious/conspiracy show. Spoiler Alert:
Plus the end was awesome, with the fake Locke! Now we have to wait until next year. :(

Lol! Looks like you started a war with the Avatar male default thread. Love the debate, you probably already know that Wilson, author of Air, is a woman. She certainly brings different food to the table. Air is the first comic I read when I get them, the similarities to Lost are almost endless.

As you buy and rate stuff, our recommendation engine will get better at showing you comics that people who like what you like also like, if that’s not too garbled a description? And while there’s a whole lot of superhero-comics-reading going on in our customer base, there are folks reading more eclectic stuff, too, and they might be drawn into talking about it in the forum…
