Customer Reviews
It is a shame that this comic will most likely never see the light of day again. In addition to being an excellent collaboration between Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith, it started out as part of Image’s failed “slimline” experiment, along with Casanova! While Casanova has found new life at Marvel’s Icon imprint, Fell has fallen by the wayside as both creators have apparently moved on to different things.
In order to give the most bang for the $1.99, Ellis used the nine panel grid almost exclusively (which, he admitted, gave him fits) with Templesmith using his unique art style, which made the slimline book feel as though it was packed to bursting. The polar opposite of the “widescreen” approach Ellis used for The Authority.
Fell is nothing like anything else ever written by Ellis. Despite that, it has become one of my favorite works by him. I believe that HI has a few of the single issues on sale @$1.99 with the 20% discount. Each issue is a stand-alone story that contributes to the larger tapestry that is Fell’s life in Snowtown.
Frustratingly, the complete work is unfinished. But, it is well worth your time and money.
