Transhuman #2- Looking forward to this book, I love that they are planning on approaching different parts of the industry in each issue, even though its not hilarious (I thought it had a few moments though), I love the writing and art, can’t wait! Twelve #5- This title has been growing on me, I really like the way JMS is writing these characters, the title so far has been pure quality, and definitely not your norm for a superhero book. Anyone else love the art on this book? I thought it’s been INCREDIBLE! Wolverine #65- The conclusion to Jason Aaron’s arc on Wolverine, has been fantastic so far, can’t wait to see this head to head go out in a all out brawl! Young Liars#3- I can’t wait to get #1 and #2 tomorrow, I think the story is really interesting, and I was really surprised how well the dialogue flowed from what I’ve read. I’ve been looking to read some “different” and I think this will be a perfect fit. BTW@ MattC: How has the kotor comics been? I was a HUGE fan of the games on xbox and I thought the Darth Bane books were fantastic.(in the Kotor universe the guy who wrote the first game was the author) @Brian: Have you seen the 5 page preview for Batman 676….. the art is drop dead GORGEOUS! |

I currently get my comics from a different source, does that mean I am prohibited from posting here? My May 14 list should include: Zorro #3 – the best written comic I’m currently reading. I love Matt Wagner’s work on Zorro’s origin. Project Superpowers #3 – also love this series. Great Golden Age characters and Alex Ross covers – ‘nuff said, IMO. Brothers in Arms #1 – my first venture into war comics. |

Of course not! :) I posted in these threads when I was just borrowing books from my buddies. I think the idea behind FM starting these things is just to get a feel as to what others are reading and also for us to get new ideas. I know I’ve started a book or two because of these threads. So it’s all good. -b.
PS by the way, MMD, my first venture into war comics is going to be Infinite Horizon. Have you ever checked that out? It’s gotten good reviews, so you may enjoy that one too. |

Hey patk514. No, I haven’t. Where did you catch it? As I just started subscribing again, I haven’t gotten comics in a while. But I’m hoping my big package of 65 comics will arrive today. -b. |

Brian got exactly the idea I had in mind when starting these threads. Just wanted to see what people are getting, get a general vibe, get some discussion going. It’s all good. And like Brian, I’ve picked up a few titles based on talks going on in the few threads we’ve had so far… Reason why I used the “what are they pulling” is simply to contrast with similar threads on other forums that ask “what are you getting on Wednesday”. Due to shipping time, we’re all gonna get our comics at different times, but HI will all pull them on the same day or so… :) FM |

@patk514 I’ve only picked up KOTOR during the Vector run, so I haven’t seen too much of it, but good ol’ Taris and the Mandalorians were big in the issues I’ve gotten, so it was a nice little flashback to those awesomely awesome games…that reminds me, I still haven’t finished the second one, I really oughta do that one day |

@Brian: Ya man CHECK IT OUT! The art is utterly amazing! God and the new rogue gallery (at least I think they’re new) looks awesome! By the way I would kill for a poster of that first page in the preview… here it is http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=156223 @FrogMan: Ya, I was considering checking it out, as I’d heard good things about the guy’s previous work on stray bullets. What really got me excited about the book was seeing it as the pick of the week on ifanboy. I usually pickup whatever they make their pick, and after listening to the podcast, and seeing other people check it out on heavyink, I’m psyched. |

Meant last issues of the arc more than anything. From what I understood, Fraction is going at it in 7 issues arcs. The first one is collected in the first trade and I assume the second one will be too. He’s said that there will be a third one (and maybe more) but it might take a while… edit to add that casanova is published in the “slimline” style, i.e. 24 pages with 16 pages of story and 8 pages of backstory for only $1.99 ($1.59 on HI). Could be defined as the “Fell” style. The backstory is not collected in the trades though… FM |

Brian and FrogMan and have already responded right on the money. To expand a little: even if you don’t shop here, please use whatever part of what we offer that you enjoy or find useful: talk in forums, write reviews, create lists (oops, can’t do that yet… but Tyler’s building something pretty cool!), etc. Oh, and my only comic this week is Serenity Better Days 3. The series has been ok so far, but feels a little choppy compared to the episodes. Might be time to watch those again… |

Interesting. Even though I have half a ton of blogs on my google reader, I didn’t have ifanboy in there. Name rings a bell, but I guess I never checked it out. Just did and found it pretty interesting. The guy’s pick of the week is Pretty Baby Machine, a black and white crime mini series that I was on the fence with. Issue #1 (of 3) shipped this week and dang it’s taking me all my self control not to try this one too… FM |

Same here (On that it’s the only issue for me too and that it’s just not hitting the perfect note). I felt the same way about the first trade of Serenity too. I was a little disappointed that with this run of issues they decided to do the “Hey we found a ton of money/stuff we can sell for money/stuff and things are going awesome until something catastrophically horrible happens to us which in the process takes our newly found riches away” plot. They already did that twice on the show. I feel that the only reason this comic medium is adequate for these characters is because they have already developed characters from the show. The problem with this is I feel that whenever they try to introduce new characters (mainly antagonists) I feel a lack of connection. Honestly, just put the show back on already, but since that isn’t going to happen, I’ll take Serenity in any shape I can get it in. |

@ Robert & Pete The new Serenity run has felt a little off too, and I think part of that is because I haven’t watched an episode in awhile. I did think the dialog in the first issue was pretty good, and issue 2 had some spots – mostly River’s and Book’s daydream scenes of what they would do with their cut – but you’re right, it’s hard to care about a new purplebelly debuted in the comic…I almost think I’d rather see “Serenity: War Journal” about the Browncoat/Alliance War, and what the other characters who weren’t involved in the fighting were doing. I’d also love if they could find a way to draw Wash so that he looks like, well, Wash. I know Alan Tudyk is a unique looking fellow, but damn, the art never looks like him, especially considering how well done most of the other characters usually are. |

Actually, any comic that’s drawn that models characters on real people feels a little forced to me, now that you mention it. That’s probably another reason it doesn’t feel quite right. |

it also doesn’t help that he’s constantly drawn with the same expression on his face – the “I’m straining against the controls to keep the ship flying” which is ok when he’s straining against the controls to keep the ship flying, but it not the look you’re going for when he’s enjoying a grand feast in the belly of Serenity… |

My list for this week: Batman #676: Not a fan of Morrison at all, but willing to give this one … single … issue. If he doesn’t draw me in, or if this is yet another “wierd for the sake of being wierd” Morrison story, I’m dropping it. Really, why is Morrison doing heroes when it’s clear he really doesn’t like them? Cthulhu Tales #2: Fan of the BOOM Studio anthologies. Guardians of the Galaxy #1: Nova is a fantastic series, and this is by the same guys, so I’ll give this a shot too. Locke and Key #4: Love Joe Hill’s work. In the middle of reading Heart Shaped Box. Great stuff. New Exiles #6: I’m a sucker for What If style stories. New Universal Shockfront: Loved the first series. |

Light week (good thing last week i think i burned a whole through my pocket straight through to the basement)Wolverine #65 – I love this arc. I was worried that I wouldnt get much, as this was my first issue (and I havent read Uncanny) but this team packed it with all kinds of awesome. Incredibly disappointed to see Jason Arron leaving after this issue. Newuniversal Shockfront #1 – First arc was so much setup, hope this gets right to it. Transhuman #2 – Cant wait. Maybe…. Batman #676….bad time to try my first issue? Guardians of Galaxy #1….Will this all go right over my head if I haven’t read Annihilation and CO? |

I’m getting: Serenity Better Days #3 – I’ll echo everyone else’s opinion that this run seems a bit “off”. I did like the surreality of the dreams in #2, mostly because it seemed like such a deviation from the rest of the Firefly stories (which pretty much ignored imaginations besides River’s). Superpowers #3 – Alex Ross, reinventing old comic heroes. What more could you want? This is my first issue of this, I hope it is good. Tiny Titans #4 – Grabbed this on a lark last issue. This comic is hilarious and adorable. Great hand-drawn illustration style (reminiscent of Peanuts a bit) and very funny shorts skewering superheroes and the way kids act. Seeing Speedy say “Titans! Awww yeah!” sold me on this comic. Well, that and seeing Robin in a car seat in the back seat of the Batmobile, asking Alfred if they could stop for ice cream. (Plus, it’s less than two bucks an issue. WHY HAVE YOU NOT CLICKED SUBSCRIBE YET?) Transhuman #2 – I remain intrigued after issue one. I hope for more infographics. |

@Chris Wolverine #65- Ya man! I was bummed out as well to hear this is going to be Jason Aaron’s last issue for his run (so far) on Wolverine. Have you bothered checking out Vaughn’s Logan, its another cool stand alone wolverine story, its been great so far and I hear #3 is the last issue (#1 is sold out I think). I’ve been loving his work on Scalped and Ghost Rider, can’t wait to see what stuff he does after this Wolverine arc! @Mattc |

BPRD 1946 is set before everything but the recovery ofLil’ Hellboy from the Nazis, so it’s probably not bad to read first, but it remains to be seen how much it will lead into later stuff… Mignola sort of writes a lot of stuff that, in addition to telling a good story, also fills in bits of his world’s backstory, you know? But yeah, much better than the movies – I think they’re some of the best comics being done now (another is Criminal) |
