...Because, I went to see it Monday, and it is awesome.

Seconded.
My local Blockbuster has a large “painting” style poster for the Iron Man movie and I was able to resist buying it the first time I saw it. The only problem is I have to return these movies sometime and I think if I see that poster again I’m buying it. :D Even my girlfriend who really isn’t into the comic book superhero story liked it.

Also, here is where I would like to offer a gigantic thanks to the director of Iron Man. First some background. In Spider-Man 3, Peter Parker did the “emo-walk-down-the-street” dance and the “emo-I-hate-you-but-I’m-actually-in-love with-you” dance in the night club. Then in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Reed Richards “dances” in the nightclub using his stretching abilities to “dance.” Thank you, thank you, thank you for not having Tony Stark dance the robot. Because if that had happened, a little piece inside of me, the piece that believes in the decentness inside of all of us, would have died. (Even though he did dance in the movie, it doesn’t count as a cheap plot device because it actually showed character development and stuff, whereas Peter Parker just looked like an ass)

Without reading Robert’s post because I haven’t seen it yet, today is a perfect day to go. I have the day off, it’s raining, and the general population of kids are still in school. :)

make sure you stay through until the end of the credits after the movie… I won’t say more :)

The “secret” bit at the end was possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen. I had chills going up my spine. I’m pretty sure that’s the textbook definition for “geekgasm”.

I have to go back to see that last scene in a theater – my buddy was in a hurry to get to the bar after the movie so we missed it. Also, check out io9.com for an interesting potential easter egg in the movie involving something round with stripes and a large star on it. (Full disclosure: if you read the post, I’m the guy that sent in the “slightly clearer” picture)

Crap! I didn’t stay for the credits… See, I had this giant soda and… yeah. I must know what happened!

okay Tyler, been trying to find a way to reveal it without saying too much, here goes a link I found that explains the scene quite clearly…

quite obviously, SPOILER WARNING, do not click if you’ve not seen the movie and want to be surprised:

I… just realized.

Is this the only movie that Samuel L. hasn’t dropped an F-bomb in? I mean, he even managed to let one loose during his cameo in Room 213 or whatever, that horror film starring John Cusack.

We need spoiler tags.

This might be a good time to bring up the fact that some people (myself, at least) read the forums post-by-post via the RSS feed instead of Thread-by-Thread through the web, which means recklessly posting-up “ZOMG Batman’s a Skrull!” might ruin someone’s day, even if it’s on the 10th page of a thread called “Oh Noes: Spoilers!”

So yeah, we need spoiler tags. Preferably ones that work on the RSS Feed, too.

(For the record, though: I saw Iron Man on the 1st. Nothing will be spoiled for me here)

PS, Noel: Attack of the Clones?

Just reach in the bag, and hand me my light saber.

How will I know which one is yours?

It’s the one that says Bad Mother Force Sensitive-er on it.

anyway, back to topic.

I liked the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it – it was everything I expected it to be, but based on reviews (which I really should stop reading altogether) I guess I expected more. Downey was absolutely perfect. I’m still not sold on Terrence Howard, an actor who professes to not like acting, as Rhodes, if only because Rhodes and Stark graduated MIT together, and Stark was 17. Unless Rhodey was another child prodigy, he should be several years older than Stark, when it appears to be just the opposite. Several reviews made this sound as if the big name cast would make people who were not fans of the superhero movie genre into big Iron Man fans, and I don’t think that will be the case. Bridges as Stane was very, very good as well but I thought he was overshadowed by the Iron Monger suit at the end. Paltrow/Potts seemed somehow underused, but she was excellent with what she was given to do.

You know who I really liked though, and can’t completely explain why? Clark Gregg as the SHIELD guy. He was really good in “In Good Company” and I liked him a lot here too – I hope he’s involved, and more involved, in the sequels.

I really enjoyed “Jarvis” as well, and have been trying to think of a way to turn the name into an acronym…

Joint Automated Residential/Vocational Integration System? I think the J ought to be something different, but I can’t come up with anything else…

yeah, that was why I tried to find a way to do it with as non descript a link as possible…
