okay, here’s reason #235685 why HeavyInk is sooooo cool. I start this thread, looking forward to seeing what other people are reading. Chris shows up and post the list of hist comics for next week with some short information about them. Some of his stuff are the same as mine, some are simply not for me, but some give me more information on titles I’ve seen in the past, sometimes in reviews from some blog or another, but never bothered to look into. But hey, I’m already at the store right now. One copy/paste from the forum post to the search box later, I’m looking at the title page of Dynamo 5 and wow, I see that that first trade does indeed look cool, but is also a pretty dang good deal at $7.99 for 7 issues. Bing, boom, bang, hit buy, checkout, and an order as been placed for said trade. That’s an integrated experience if I know one… FM |

I really hope Man With No Name delivers the goods; im a big fan of westerns, especially the clint eastwood sergio leone variety. How do you like Nova? Havent read annihilation yet but I hear alot about it. |

Annihilation is pretty good, although some of it is less well drawn and less interesting than the rest of it. I’m enjoying Nova – it’s pretty clever super hero space opera (ie, only slightly superhero-y, and the better for that), on a pretty grand scale. |

Clearly there’s a step that can be saved… we’ve been thinking that we should be able to manage auto-linking from forums and blog posts with a little effort Just a couple for me: House Of Mystery #1 I always get excited with a new #1… I like the surprise of discovering whether a new series is going to be good or not. |

Just a quick note on Dynamo 5—it’s really really good. Excellent purchase there FrogMan! I have the first Annihilation trade waiting here for me to read it…I recently read Life & Death of Captain Marvel and have been wading ankle deep into the cosmic side of Marvel. I loved Infinity Gauntlet when I was a wee one but there’s plenty more to discover…I also have the Starlin/Lim Thanos/Silver Surfer trade in my “to read” pile which is sort of a prelude to Gauntlet, as I understand it. I just wish the Warlock stuff was collected in trade! It’s driving me nuts. Oh, this week? Right. Sorry. Detective Comics #844—one of the few titles I am a “completist” on; Dini’s run has been wearing thin for me but it has good moments. Mighty Avengers #13—Eager as always to see where the next chapter of Secret Invasion goes, even if these “Avengers” titles don’t have many avengers in them lately… Nearly Infamous Zango #2—Hail Lord Zango! Secret Invasion #2—See above. I know next to nothing about this issue so I’m ready to be shocked and awed. Supergirl #29—This is a title I was hipped to by reading about it at Funnybook Babylon, and writer Kerry Gammill has a really nice little superhero run going here, in which Supergirl decides she wants to cure cancer. Seriously. It’s light, but not TOO light, if that makes sense. I also just now ordered me some Ellis Iron Man, riding my high of seeing the movie this weekend, and Showcase Batman Vol. 1, since I’m thinking Grant Morrison did some reading in it to build his current Batman run… |

And as with quite a few of my other purchases around here, your review of it meant something in my decision to order the first trade. :)
yeah, seeing that movie made me want to buy just about anything Iron Man I could get my hands on. This includes Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron, although I’d already subscribed to it a while ago, but also the Warren Ellis Extremis trade and I just added a subscription to Jon Favreau’s four issue Viva Las vegas which has issue #1 shipping this week… Most excellent timing! FrogMan, Kurt Busiek and Sean Chen did a GREAT revival of Iron Man in the late nineties, around the time of Busiek’s Avengers run with George Perez…if you’re into back issues at all, I highly recommend it. As far as I know, it’s never been traded. |

I’m not into back issues too much at the moment no, but thanks for the suggestion. I’ve taken good note of it. Would that be the run you’re suggesting? Certainly looks like it, 1998, Busiek/Chen, at least on the first issue, then later on Busiek/Bagley (at least on #21 which I just checked)... FWIW, this looks like Busiek’s run with Perez... I like comicbookdb… :) FM |

That’s it! Looks like issues 1 to 25…I have part of this run back at my parents’ house and I’ll be claiming it in a few weeks when I go back to visit. :) The Busiek/Perez Avengers is fantastic stuff. Reprinted in five hardcovers. You can probably also get the first trade for very cheap on eBay or something since everyone’s sold them to upgrade to the hardcover. |

Looking forward to picking up Secret Invasion 2 this week, the jury is still out for me on this book. I’m not such a huge fan of sci-fi alien type stuff, and its sorta what the first issue of Secret Invasion felt like, bah I just want to see Daredevil fight a skrull daredevil, see elektra come back, or….(blah blah blah). Also getting Logan and Detective, the latter being the second part of a GREAT story with Zatanna and Batman. Awesome preview art for it here Hey Frogman I thought the movie was great as well and if you dug the movie I would highly recommend the Ultimate Iron Man books. It’s scripted by Orson Scott Card(ender game books), and so far its been pretty awesome( I couldn’t put the first trade down). I believe it’s also where Obidiah came from and they change up Iron Man’s origin a bit, but damn it’s good. Right now theres one trade and then it’s continued in Ultimate Iron man 2(there was a long lapse between the first and 2nd arc) which I believe is on #3 right now(has been delayed for a while). I hear good things about Zorro and the Lone Ranger by the way, and they’re the same publisher who’s putting out The Man with No Name this week, should be a solid first issue I think! |

Ultimate Iron Man is a really good trade. I think Orson Scott Card did a really good job with an original origin for Ultimate Iron Man. You get to see Tony Stark from the start of his life to a young adult where he is put in charge of his father’s company. You even get to see the Mark I suit he made in Ultimate Iron Man in Ultimates 2: Grand Theft America. It was really cool to see the Mark I suit, tying the two titles together. Ultimate Iron Man II seems to be going a little slower than the first one, but it’s really cool to see Iron Man and War Machine in action. My one big gripe is it seems that Obidiah has a weapon that seems almost too powerful. He’s such a horrible person I hope he ends up getting whats coming for him. |

quote – “I hear good things about Zorro and the Lone Ranger by the way, and they’re the same publisher who’s putting out The Man with No Name this week, should be a solid first issue I think!” I read The Lone Ranger and Zorro (#3 out May 14!), and both are excellent titles. So I have high hopes for the Man With No Name. |

seriously can’t wait for this. And anybody on the fence, it has apparently sold out and Marvel is not thinking about going back to print, so get whatever is left here at HeavyInk while it’s still available… :) I ended up passing on the Las Vegas mini series although I might get it as a trade later on. Replaced it by taking a chance on Gemini #1 by the same guy who’s done Noble Causes and Dynamo 5. Back issues that also shipped today include Grimm Fairy Tales Piper #1 & #2, as well as Young Liars #1 & #2. Also, the Essential Iron Fist #1 trade shipped today, pretty awesome. FM |

I’m just getting Madman Atomic Comics #8, which I am really looking forward to. #7 was pretty catastrophic, so this one should be interesting. However, someone mentioned Transformers Movie Sequel Reign Of Starscream #1. I may just have to look into that… |
