We’re please as punch to announce that we’ve hired a new member of the HeavyInk team – Ami is coming on as our VP of Marketing! The way we found Ami was that she was googling for a place to buy graphic novels, and found HeavyInk … so you know she’s a “member of the tribe”. Ami really impressed us with a lot of things during the interviews, but especially with her experience of, and knowledge of various comic book conventions. Everybody say “hi” to Ami! |

If this is really Travis in heels and a miniskirt, I will be seriously freaked out. |

Maybe she’s just unaware of the thread or the blurbs.
My, my Travis. You do clean up nicely. -b. |

I think that’s too much of a commitment to workplace diversity. |

You wouldn’t believe how much work I’ve buried Ami under – I’m just surprised that she hasn’t gone catatonic yet! |

So what does a VP of Marketing do? If someone asked me that I’d say “A VP of Marketing obviously VPs…markets. Duh.” |

Umm, I’m assuming it means she’s the head of marketing for HI. -b. |

So what does a VP of Marketing do? Some awesome full frontal Heavy Ink comic ads. |

Quiet you. : ) The only place I’ve ever worked is within 50 feet of a cash register. So obviously I know what a marketing department does in a broad sense, but I was wondering how it would relate and what it meant in the Heavy Ink context. |

We have three people who do marketing-related stuff: Dan does graphic design, Matt does interviews and the newsletter, and Katherine (not present on HI) does newsletters and other small projects for SmartFlix. A VP of Marketing will have all of these folks report to her (and thus take me out of much of the loop for proofreading newsletters, herding graphic designers to deliver stuff on time (...or at all… :-), brainstorm marketing ideas, prioritize marketing ideas, write ad copy, deal with publishers trying to pitch us ad space in comic books and convention organizers trying to pitch us booth space at conventions, work with Matt to arrange special prizes from publishers which we can give away, etc., etc., etc. ...and, of course, that’s just the HI side of the table. Similar tasks exist over in SmartFlix land… |

It’s actually really interesting to hear about the business behind this website. I have to remind myself that when I click ‘Buy’, it’s people sending me comic books and not workshop elves. |

couldn’t agree more with Robert. Your openness with this explanation here, and before that in the interview you gave to comics reporter, and the simple announce of the shipping glitch that Pete made yesterday are all playing huge in the fact that I really care about how well you guys do and make me feel part of something when I simply shop here. Well done guys, don’t change a thing. :) FM |

It’s people! Heavy Ink shipping is done by people! They’re shipping comics with people! (Name that movie?) (I’ve never actually seen it…) |
