Thanks to Tyler and the many PhD theses he read, I was recommended I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates Outer Space!!!

When I first saw this title, I just naturally assumed it was some gimmicky type thing to get teenage wankers to buy it. (I’m not British, so if that is too offensive, I’ll edit it. I only lived in London for grad school.) And also because of the title (and not because I just think all comic writers are men), I assumed it was written by a man.

Curiosity got the better of me and I clicked on the link, half expecting to see Leisure Suit Larry jump out at me. (Does anyone else remember him?) I found it interesting to see that it was written by a woman, Megan Rose Gedris, who was also the artist on the comic. I’ve never heard of her, but I had some time this morning, so I did a quick Google search. Turns out she’s like 22! She’s got a successful web-comic called YU+ME, and according to the article I read, has 30,000 fans reading her web-comics a day. Damn!

Anyway, I wanted to share what I came across in my “research.” I personally have never read a web-comic, but I think I may have to. She seems to be a real talent, and has a very loyal following. Hope to see more of her in print comics.

PS Just a thought… Being that she’s a young hipster, maybe we could send her an invite to HeavyInk? How would that work, exactly? Even though she’s more of a web-comic creator, I just think it would be cool to try to get as many writers and comic creators over here.

I haven’t gotten around to reading the space pirates one yet. I read that article and started reading Girls with Slingshots and that one is pretty good.

DrunkDuck have many very cool comics, especially the Platinum Studios titles. I’m currently reading through the back material for Hero By Night and it is very good…
