Customer Reviews
I am predisposed to like a period piece like this. I generally like the hard-boiled Mickey Spillane type fare. I think the storyline (this is basically a one-up) is solid, but somehow the writing doesn’t quite fully measure up. It lacks just a certain “something.” Ironically, the lead character, the Femme herself, just comes across as even less than two-dimensional; flat and a bit dull. I’m down with “just the facts, ma’am,” but she needs some spark of life. Likewise with the art: its technically well done, with good mood and drawing, but somehow the composition doesn’t quite add up. It seems like there’s lots of cool small elements, but they don’t add up to complete frames. So, in a weird sense, I like the concept and I like the style, but the actual execution just doesn’t jump as far as I would hope. (Having said that, if there are future books, I would probably get at least one more to see if this team improves a little bit).
