Dynamo 5 #17 – Spoilers Included
What a great issue. Maddie has been in a coma for a few issues and the “original” Dynamo 5 has disbanned. In a desperate attempt to revive Maddie, Doc Noble sends Scrap to find Scatterbrain so that he can use his mental powers to enter Maddie’s mind and bring her out of the coma. Scatterbrain shows up and finds Maddie taking a walk down memory lane. We get to see one of her first meetings with Captain Dynamo and also the last time they saw each other before Captain Dynamo was killed by Widowmaker. We also learn that Maddie was engaged prior to becoming involved with Captain Dynamo. I find Tom, her finance. to be an interesting introduction to a character because I do not believe that Jay adds a ton of throw away threads in his stories. I have a feeling that Tom will turn out to be the person that employeed Widowmaker to kill Captain Dynamo to get revenge on Maddie for dumping him for the good Captain. This is just pure speculation but something that I could see developing.
The art was beauiful as always but it really popped for me this issue. The splash page to open the book with Captain Dynamo and the Red Scare fighting was amazing. Mahmud out did himself on this one. The use of coloring in the mind sequences was also very point on for this issue. I felt like this was one of the strongest issues of Dynamo 5 I had read. The story was full of backstory information and it took a fair amout of time to digest the book. I think this is one of the top issues of an amazing series.
Love this series and if you are not picking it up you really are missing out.
