Here is the #0 issue for Dark Horse Comic’s new “Conan the Cimmerian” title.
The cover: Tomas Giorello’s take on Conan is pretty awesome. The cover was good, but not really evocative of the story within. 4 stars. The story: Tim Truman has been on board with Conan since Kurt Busiek left Dark Horse’s “Conan”. I think he does a great job. Reportedly, he grew up a huge Robert E. Howard fan. Obviously in a Zero issue, they are simply setting the stage for the title to come. He does a great job using R.E.H.’s own words to weave the story of Conan’s return to Cimmeria. 5 stars. The art: The more I see of Tomas Giorello’s stuff, the more I like it. He does a beautiful job of recapping the last 50 issues of “Conan” in art work. If you’ve read the first title (I read the TPB’s), you’ll see lots of familiar bits of stories. And Villarubia’s colors are perfect. I particularly liked the high contrast of the blood. 5 stars. Other comments: I’m looking forward to more of this kind of quality in this title.

Totally on agreement with Andy here… I was skeptical of the new team, having been on board the whole previous series, but they pulled it off. In fact, Truman’s art may be a notch above anything I’d expected.
I too am looking forward to future issues in this series.
