WARRIORS THREE #1: A Most Useful Monster

A mighty monster lay bound in chains, trapped forever and denied the vengeance long prophesied by the Fates: the Doom of the Gods—Ragnarok. When mighty Thor broke the Eternal Cycle of Ragnarok, the bloodlust of the reborn beast would never be sated. However, years ago, Project Valdyr of A.I.M. was set into motion with the freeing of the Great Wolf: the Son of Loki, Fenris!

Now in the modern world, in the realm of Midgard, the Wolf is loose—an entire town of Ash Valley, Washington slaughtered, the corpses piled high to send a dark and bloody message to Asgard. Heimdall of the All-Seeing Eyes summons the bravest of Asgardians to face the beast.

Elsewhere in Midgard, in Oklahoma City, begin the exploits of the Warriors Three among the mortals: Frandal’s prowess among women and his mighty sword; Volstagg’s voluminous hunger at Joe’s Diner, having eaten everything; Hogun’s triumphant bar-fight over an insult, grim as always. Heeding the Call of the Gjallarhornm the Warriors Three rush back to Asgard on their mighty steeds.

Once hearing of the Great Wolf being free and angry over their past history with the beast, the Warriors Three set out on their own to hunt Fenris down, embracing one of the mortals’ “favorite activities from vulgar novels and television plays. Detective Work.” Taking the Norn Stones with them, the Warriors Three, plunge into another of the Nine Worlds: Nifelhel, slaying monsters and crossing poisonous rivers as they go, seeking clues to how Fenris escaped. Alas for them, an army of Trolls are also seeking the truth of Fenris’ freedom, for the Great Wolf heralds the Promised Day: The End of the Gods!

I am a huge fan of Mythology and look forward to the continued adventure of the Warriors Three. The entire story is narrated by an as yet unnamed A.I.M. Agent, my favorite part being when the A.I.M. Scientists made their way through Nifelhel, researching the unknown of this terrible underworld, guns blazing and pictures taking along with notes. Everything was a joy to read and see, Bill Willingham’s comedic tale accompanied by good art. I loved it and had a good laugh!

OTHER NOTE: BLACK PANTHER: The Man Without Fear #513 Preview. Deep in an Urban Jungle, in New York City, the place called Hell’s Kitchen, the former King of Wakanda has taken over the role of the fallen Daredevil? I don’t know what to think of this one because I never really liked the idea of Daredevil turning evil and corrupt; seems that happens a lot to heroes when authors begin to run out of ideas. It is bad enough T’Challa lost his own Title to Shuri and now Daredevil must lose his own Title to the Black Panther.
