Guys, you know I get all over Matt Fraction for his current meh run Uncanny X-Men, so I’ve gotta be fair and flog him when he turns in a good work, no? I just got finished reading the new reprint of Casanova #1, and it’s like the polar opposite of Uncanny… smart, funny, super-condensed and highly propulsive storytelling that really dares the reader to keep up with it, in a way that reminds me of Grant Morrison’s best works. And of course it’s also unlike Uncanny in that the art is fantastic- Bá and Moon do bang-up jobs here, and the new coloring looks great, slightly muted like a Dark Horse book, really complimenting the nice inks. Yeah I know it originally came out in 2006, but this is the first time I’ve read it, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
