PRINCE OF POWER #3: Our Lady of Slaughter
Deep in the Duat, the Egyptian Underworld, Thor and Amadeus Cho must face the mighty Eye of Ra: Sekhmet and Apep the Demon Serpent. Fleeing the wrath of the Lioness Goddess our heroes go deeper into the Egyptian Afterlife which has undertaken much remodeling and modernizing through eternity . . .
In the world of the living, trapped within The Olympus Group Building surrounded on all sides by the The Pantheon, the escaped Amazonian Queen Delphyne Gorgon must form an uneasy alliance with her most hated enemy Athena if they wish to survive. The Pantheon suffers the cold-blooded vengeance of the Amazonian Queen, leaving a trail of blood and death in her wake.
After their battle across the Underworld, Thor and Cho have unwittingly allowed Vali Halfling to gain the true Book of Thoth, bringing the scheming Son of Loki ever closer to true ultimate godhood.
I have enjoyed the story of Incredible Hercules by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente since its beginning, but I think the series lost something when the comics became more about the comedy, beginning to neglect the stories themselves after the âSecret Invasionâ Arc. This series is still good in my opinion because it draws upon all of my favorite myths, but once again for the sake of comedy and laughs the gods and goddesses are being turned into complete pushovers; Sekhmet and Apep are two of the most powerful deities in Egyptian Mythology and they have been reduced to jokes. Thor being portrayed as a stupid oaf constantly being berated by Cho for what the ancient Vikings did long ago grew tiresome for me. Thank the Marvel Gods when Thor finally answered the Boy Genius with: âYou see this hammer? It is very large. AND I CAN PUT IT THROUGH YOUR FACE.â
Alas, this issue has made me afraid of how Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente are going to write Thor in the upcoming Chaos War when Mikaboshi brings Eternal Darkness upon all of Creation . . .
