“The horror, the horror!”
I’m from Canada.
I have a Canadian accent.
Ya, I’m thinking about checking out the new Punisher Maxx book. Dude, if there was anyone else besides Garth Ennis that could write the hell out of that book, its gotta be Jason Aaron. The guy has gritty crime stories and characters nailed down to a science, I think it’ll be awesome.
Another thing I can’t wait for is Borderlands man! That game looks insane, 4 player co-op with 50 hours of gameplay HELL YA!!!! Also dude have you seen the movie Midnight Meat Train? I know you were into the Cthulu books a while back and the plot is somewhat in the same genre though its a pretty average but different movie.
Wolfy said:
Hey Pat, I’ve been playing the Uncharted 2 demo so much with my friends that its boring now…:)
The Marvel comics i’ve been reading are Dark Reign Zodiac which is awesome, and Strange Tales (really funny). I’m trying to avoid too much marvel cause of their MAX price increase, but Punisher #75 and Deadpool #900 look too good to pass up.
Also I can’t forget the Punisher #11 Frankencastle arc and the new Max punisher title by Jason Aaron.
Hey man, my bad for not saying anything for a while.
You have a PS3 right? I was watching a review for Uncharted 2…holy shit, it looks amazing!
For comics though, Blackest Night has been cool, but I’ve been checking out more Marvel stuff lately. Batman in Russia sounds cool, I think they did something similar for superman(for like a motion comic or something). Checking anything out from Marvel lately?
Wolfy said:
I’ve been reading Batman and Robin (sweet art) and Blackest Night also.
You getting any crossovers to Blackest Night? I’m picking up BN: Batman and Green Lantern. I think i’ll pass on the BN: Superman.
Batman Confidential started a cool arc about Batman Fighting Crime in Russia.
Also, if you are into Hellboy and gothic literature check out Baltimore. It was a book co authored by Mike Mignola that follows a devastated seargent encounter with vampires monsters etc during WWII. Its a pretty cool read, definitely some Mignola’s darkest stuff.
Hey man,
What do you think of this comic Dethclock vs The goon? I thought the show was sorted twisted and I’ve heard alot of good things about The Goon.
By the way if you are still playing ps3…you have to get Battlefield 1943…AMAZING GAME!!!!
updated the BotW thread in the forum – the creator got in touch, and we’re trying to put something together for you… we’ll see how it goes.
The series is not ending.
Wolfy said:
Hey Brian,, I’ve been reading Northlanders since issue #1, I’m sad to hear that the series is going to end soon.
Issue #17 sounds sweet! Will you be writing more Viking or Barbarian tales in the future?
The first one was too much of a space age ripoff of NOTLD. The twist in the second one was pretty lame. Haven’t seen the third one. Maybe I should watch em again that was a long time ago.
Wolfy said:
The Dead Space movie is definitly worth the rent. I didn’t like the RE generation movie that much, the animation reminds me of ps2 and I didnt know much about the characters.
Really, you didnt like the Live action movies? I did.
nice! I’m excited to get it money’s just been tight. the demo was pretty sick.
hey man, how’s killzone 2? I wanted to pick it up but don’t have the money right now. I’m waiting for RE5.
hey man, how’s killzone 2? I wanted to pick it up but don’t have the money right now. I’m waiting for RE5.
I was gonna rent the Dead Space animated movie. Is it worth my $7? I just watched Resident Evil Degeneration and I thought it kicked ass and I hated the live action RE movies.
Wolfy,
Since you and me obviously share a serious passion for the dead. I was wondering if you could help me compile a list of all and any zombie and post-apocaylptic comics, trades, and fiction you can find and I mean anything. I would like to input it all into Excel and then start checking off everything I’ve read and that way I know what I need to read and recommend to others.!! Sound like fun?
I play PS3 but I haven’t played for a while been side tracked with other stuff I’m assuming I’ll get hooked as soon a I pick up RE5. I’ll have to look into Killzone 2 as well. As far as Zombie movies I love them all! I really want them to make a movie based on the characters of The Walking Dead. I would probably die and go to heaven after that…=)
Wolfy said:
Yup, What system do you play? I’ve been waiting a hell-of-a long time for Killzone 2. I never rally liked the RE games that much, I played #1-3, RE5 has great graphics.
Zombies are awesome. Do you watch zombie movies?
I like Romero’s films: Dawn of the dead, LandOTD, DayOTD, NightOTLD. I also like 28 Days and Weeks Later.
I already reserved my cope of Resident Evil 5! I’ve been waiting over 4 years since I beat RE4 on Gamecube.
Wolfy said:
Thanks for the Logan recommendation man as soon as HI get it in stock ill pick it up.
I might rent SF4, but I’m waiting 7 days for Killzone 2!
Damn Wolfy, I can’t believe I found somebody that has as much passion about zombie comic as I do, right on!
Wolfy said:
Hey dude, Raise the Dead is available as a trade and Living with the Dead is as well.
You should check out Dead Space, all six issues are on youtube with voice actors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_rfMR-aGCY
Do you play PS3? I hope a Killzone comic comes out.I also found a great documentary about the history of comic books. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCA1yK7h7uk
Wolfy, Thanks for the blurb. I’m currently reading Zombie Tales, and Zombies that ate the world. But I will check out raise and living with the dead. Hopefully HI carries them.

Wolfy said:
Hey Grinder you should check out: Raise the Dead,
Zombie Tales,
Living With The Dead, Zombies That Ate The WorldThey’re all great titles. Hard Boiled and Resistance are also good apocalyptic series.
Hey, you picking up street fighter? The new one looks good, but the arcade stick for it is so damn expensive.
Wolfy said:
Hey dude, the trailer for Tales of the Black Freighter looked cool, I hope it gets implemented into the movie.
Dude, check out this trailer for Tales of the Black Freighter from the Watchmen gn.
I think it looks promising.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zUgBK0-qbo
Right now I’m thinkin’ Y The Last Man for sure and Watchmen because I have to see what’s up with that, and then probably Haunt of Horror. For actual comics I subscribed to Unknown Soldier so far.
Wolfy said:
I hope the Watchmen movie does well also.
So what comics are you thinking about subscribing to?
Yeah, I have heard nothing but good things about it from friends and such. I really hope the movie does well because the reviews for The Spirit were shameful for what it was supposed to live up to.
Wolfy said:
Read Watchmen. http://heavyink.com/graphic_novel/2212-Watchmen
Ignore the reviewer.
Hey man, did you see the intro for Killzone 2?
It was posted up online and it shows the first 10 minutes when you start the game. The game looks absolutely amazing dude! They must have some killer writers on that game because the speech in the beginning immerses you totally in the game a la Bioshock.
I don’t have a PS3 but if I did Killzone 2 would be the first game I get.
Wolfy said:
Hey Pat, Mr Stuffins does look pretty cool but when I subscribed it only registered the old #2 version instead of the reprint #1 in April, I might wait until more solicitations come out before subing again. I’ll let you know how it is.
Did u mean the Wanted movie or the graphic novel? Cause the only good thing about the movie was Angelina Jolie. :)
hey so i just tried to sent you this blurb and me being a idiot posted it on my own page…god i feel dumb. here was the original message.
yo! hey just got home, my girl was playing guitar hero said you sent a message i didn’t want to make her stop playing, but no i havn’t been able to get a new mic yet. i get paid tomarrow, if i have time i’m going to try and make it to the mall
hey dude, gonna try to make it to the mall tomarrow and pick up a new mic, i’ll let you know. did you ever get those walking dead trades?
hey dude, gonna try to make it to the mall tomarrow and pick up a new mic, i’ll let you know. did you ever get those walking dead trades?
dude, Mr. Stuffins looks awesome. You gotta tell me how that is! If they make it over the top and crazy like Wanted it would be epic.
hey my psn is arnone420, havn’t been play r2 as much just picked up the new call of duty, but we should play online sometime
Hey, I was thinking about getting into the Punisher books more specifically the Garth Ennis run. Do you recommend that I get the Punisher Omnibus or skip it and go with the Max Series?
Hey man, I’ve finally gotten around to reading the rest of Preacher. The first two trades are great quality. I picked up the third trade a few days ago and I just noticed how awful the paper is in it.
I also noticed this was a reprint version done in 2001. Is it just the third trade that suffers from this or do all the reprinted Preacher trades use shitty paper stock?
Hey, want to get together online Christmas time for some “Resistance 2”? It’s on my list!
I’m pretty sure you can, I’ll send you an invite as last as the rest of the clan agrees, were all good friends and family so i wanna make sure they are cool with it. I’ll send the invite after i talk tell them
Wolfy said:
Hey dude, that was a great team deathmatch in Resistance 2. I’m strangewolf. Can I join your clan?
Name is the same….
Hanzo_the_Razor, don’t have bad company anymore, but I’ll def rock out to some R2
The comic is good, but Gunslinger Born is absolutely amazing. It’s a must read man!
Ever seen the series Texhnolyze? It’s a really great cyber-punk anime that is totally messed. You should defintely check it out. Check out this awesome amv, I love this song as well.

Hey dude, I’ve never read the Dark Tower Novel or the Comic.
I heard great things about the novel. How is the comic?
Hey man, you read the Dark Tower books at all?
Wolfy said:
I think I’m going to start picking up Batman: Gotham After Midnight. Ever read it?
Dude, those are some great movies on that last. I’ve heard alot of really good things about Hellraiser, gotta get around to that sometime.
Dude, an awesome movie you NEED to check out is called Taken. I’d probably do a shitty job explaining the movie so take a look at the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2JqEPQHHzk
I saw the whole thing last night and wow, what a fantastic movie. Watch the trailer and I guarantee you’ll wanna check it out.
As far as Batman stuff goes I hear the new Joker Graphic Novel is going to be insanely good.
Heres the preview/review at ign: http://comics.ign.com/articles/921/921227p1.html
One amazing book that the same team did was called Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. It takes everything from Lex’s point of view and depicts superman as this sort of evil scary looking guy. The art is absolutely gorgeous.
Criminal is good but I think Scalped is definitely better.
Wolfy said:
Are you going to read Unknown Soldier from Dc?
How is the first arc of Criminal? Know any good Batman comics coming out? Something that doesn’t relate to Batman RIP, I’d like to get into a fresh Batman Arc.
Are you checking out Little Big Planet? The game looks decent though honestly I’m sort of done with most platform games these days.
I wish they would come out with a Max Payne 3. I love the gritty storylines of the first two, and would love to see that dev team do more.
By the way do you know any comics or movies like that?I’m really looking for like a gritty/hard edge movies or comics to check out, so if you know any post it.
Wolfy said:
I’ve been waiting for Dead Space and Brothers in Arms to be returned back to blockbuster for over a week now. I have Oblivion and I hate it. Fallout 3 looks cool but it seems a little silly for me.
I gave up on Star Wars after Episode 2.
Too much Lucas psycho babble. I always loved the episode 4,5,6 trilogy, that oldschool vibe.I’m thinking about getting the new Call of Duty World at War game but the one that is a definite buy will be Killzone 2 in Feb.
Fable 2 has a cool premise, you can grow as a good or bad guy, but I’m a PS3 player so I don’t know much about it further than that.
Probably next on the list for me as far as games go is Fallout 3, though to be honest I didn’t really like Oblivion.
How about you man, I might give Brothers in Arms a shot, though I’m sort of sick of WW2 shooters. I heard Force unleashed was ok, though mainly for the story. What do you think about Fable 2?
Rented Deadspace and beat it, wow what a cool game. The comic definitely helps fill in the story as really its either done through audiologs or text otherwise.
Overall a great scifi horror game but what really makes it great is the fact that it’s like the only one out there. Definitely worth a rent man, the game scared the hell out of me lol.
Dude you play wow at all?
I didn’t catch the newest one I heard it was hilarious, something about indiana jones?
Wolfy said:
yo man, they say Dead space will have that jump out of your seat suspence unlike the new silent hill game. I saw SH got a bad review for repetive gameplay and trying to be scary.
I played Bioshock at a friends house, I thought it was awsome, very unique but I usually buy games for online so i’ll probably rent it.
I’m still deciding if I want to purchase Dead Space or rent it. I know I’ll only play it through one time.
Did you see the new South Park episode?
Yo dude! Deaspace this week man!!! I can’t wait for this game, its going to be great! Do you think this could be better than Bioshock even?
The new Silent Hill game looks sick as well, are you checking that out?
As far as Mercinaries goes, I thought it looked cool, but have been too busy to check it out, guess I wont now heh.
youseeme_us but the only online game I have is GTA4
Wolfy said:
Hey Jerod, what’s your name on PS3?
Wolfy, are you planning on playing SOCOM? I’m probably going to be playing that nonstop after it comes out.
Hey. My PS3 name is MidnightSociety. But I haven’t been on in weeks. I’m going to get Fallout 3 and Fable 2 for 360 when they come out. My 360 tag is Grrargghh in case you have a 360.
Hey man, have you heard anything on this series, just came out called Roberts?
http://heavyink.com/comic/5272-Roberts-1
The preview for it sounds killer, so I dunno I might pick it up.
Ifanboy chose it as their pick of the week and did a mini video podcast for it here
http://ifanboy.com/podcasts/video/mini
Cool. I hear ya gott a make that dough. Hopefully sometime soon I can get a script to you so you can at least see something.

I think about getting into comics evey day Billy, but recently I haven’t been drawing as much, more focused on getting a paycheck. I would love to collab with you on a comic in the future or near future.
Right on man.Have you ever thought of getting into comics(probably a stupid question.)I like to see myself as an inspiring writer but finding an artist is tough. If you are ever considering make a go at it, and you ‘d be interested in a collabo, hit me up. I’ve got a Cthulhu Tale I’d like to pitch or even just for fun and practice. If interested I’ll be around here. HI rules.
Wolfy said:
Hey Billy, Lovercraft rules, post ur pic of his grave on HI. I draw a lot of horror but I dont have a scanner, I’m getting a new digi cam soon and will post new stuff. Here is my Devient art page I havent updated it in a year, Its mostly stuff from when I was in school; photoshop files, I’ve gotten a lot better since then. http://wolfy199.deviantart.com/gallery/
Wolfy, I see that your a big fan of the Cthulhu mythos. I actually live in RI, right down the street where Love craft is buried. I’m actually thining about about going to do a grave rubbing of his tombstone and frame it. But I aslo noticed taht you say you are an artist. Do you have any work posted anywhere. i’d love to check it out. I’m guessing by your faves you like the horror. Do you draw horror/monsters?
Wolfy, what a great thread on Favorite Covers! That was fun!
I’m definitely going to pick up Welcome to Hoxford and ya man Templesmith’s art from what I’ve seen is I think some of his best work period. The concept also sounds pretty awesome as well.
As for anime, I used to be into it alot more than I am now; but ya, Animatrix and Vampire Hunter D were both fantastic.
My favorite stuff would half to be Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Berserk, and this new series called Ergo Proxy (dude YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS ONE!!!).
I tried to get into Spawn but damn man, wayyy too messed up for me lol. Definitely Check out Jin Roh and Berserk though man, really really fantastic stuff!
Wolfy said:
Hey pat, oh man I picked up Welcome to Hoxford, its great and gory. Templesmith is doing a 10 star job, the covers and art are sick. The first issue is basically about a crazy guy who like biting people, he gets sent to a facility runed by private russian military with a bunch of other psychos and it seems really shadey. Definitely pick this one up! Are you into animation like spawn, vampire hunter d or animatrix?
man i didn’t know they have THAT type of shit on youtube. I can’t go there anymore because i end up spending 3hrs + looking at scientology, conspiracy theoris, and a whole bunch of other distracting shit.
Wolfy said:
shit dude totally I forgot YOU told me about fantastic planet :S. I’m on youtube a lot and made playlists of anime movies like Biohunter, Dark Fury Chronicles of Riddick, Vampire hunter D blood lust, Van Helsing London Assignment and many more
here’s my playlist. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F3854A4AE0DA2E6B

I’ll be sure to pick up Dominion next time I’m at my LCBS, looks wicked.
Awesome! Thanks so much for the kind words! If you love FALL, you’re really going to love where it all goes… If you’re interested in helping us out, drop an e-mail to Chip at cmosher@boom-studios.com, he’s on vacation but will be back on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, we’re having trouble getting THE GODFATHER out and GEARS has been completely canceled. But PULP TALES is awesome!
Best,

Wolfy said:
Hey Ross, I want to say that BOOM! is my favourite publisher. I loved Tag, Zombie Tales, Station, Fall of Cthulhu, CTales and many more. I will always be supporting BOOM because of the exciting new style you bring to the market. Whenever I read a BOOM title I sence freedom of expression, which is very refreshing. If I could be a part of the BOOM team it would make my dream into reality.
Im great at resourcing/researching and drawing(perspective, anatomy, storyboard etc).
I read some of the webcomics like cthulhu and zombie tales and they are amazing. I also like how the website is becoming interactive and I’m excited about the upcoming Gears of war, Godfather and Pulp Tales.-Brad Wolfy
Yo dude, did you check out the first issue of Welcome to Hoxford? I took a look at some of the previews online and damn man this series looks like it will be INCREDIBLE! I dunno if you already got it, but I’m definitely thinking about checking it out.
dude i said “YOU should check out fantastic planet”. Damn Nation sounds crazy, haven’t read it yet. I picked up the Spawn animates DVDs at HMV a few months back for $4/ea. SCORE.
Wolfy said:
Hey man, I saw you have Damn Nation on one of your list’s, looks nice, I might pick it up at a con this month. Are you into Spawn? Have you seen the HBO series? Also check out on youtube (Fantastic Planet – La Planète sauvage), its animation from the late 70’s, like Heavy Metal but about humans being used as pets on a alien world, it is sooo trippy. I think you’ll like it.
I did get the 1 issue of PBM that came out. But it got canceled/postponed.
Wolfy said:
Hey there, I saw your shadowline list, good stuff.
you should read Pretty Baby Machine and Gutwrencher they’re really good shadowline titles
Hi Wolfy, thanks for the tip on Northlanders. I definitely want to read the first issues. Have you enjoyed it?
Wolfy said:
Hey Brian, you should definitely read the first 6 issues of Northlanders before you read issue 7.
There is a lot of back story you will be missing out on. Issue 7 would just seem like random characters fighting.
By the way, saw a post you made about Arkham Asylum, decided to check it out, I’ve only gotten through the first issue so far, wow it’s pretty nuts…I love the backstory with the asylum though.
Dude, I just picked up the first trade of Wormwood, holy crap I definitely think this series is Templesmith’s best its Pure BADASS!!
PS3 nick is geekspeedracer. DMZ is great. I’ve been reading since #1.
Wolfy said:
Hey Beet, whats your PSN name on PS3? I saw u subed DMZ, I was thinking of picking up the trades sometime, any good?
yeah, I’ve meant to pick up the first trade I think from the first week I’ve been on HeavyInk. Read the first issue on imagecomics.com and liked it a lot but then it became unavailable on HI. Bummer. Might have to get it from indigo.ca (nice place for trades for Canadian customers btw)…
Wolfy said:
Man Walking Dead is such a amazing series im on TPB volume 7, I like the trades better because the covers are by Tony Moore and they combine into one big picture. You gotta read this series.
cool. Quebec can be a really cool city if you want to feel as if you’re visiting Europe without flying that far away. :) The Old Quebec area is highly recommended and this Summer, there are all sorts of special festivities for the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the city…

Hey frogman, I’m from Toronto, my uncle is from Montreal, never been though. I hear great things about Quebec. I’m thinking about going on a road trip to Montreal sometime. Blade runner is by far my favorite Sci-Fi movie. Logan’s Run is a classic. Other classics of some significance that go further back are “Forbidden Planet” and “Robinson Crusoe on Mars”. The genre is replete with greats. But, Ridley Scotts stab at perfection on Blade Runner is amazing… and the movie diverges quite a bit from Philip K. Dick’s book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep). My favorite line from the movie was actually written by Rutger Hauer (Batty): “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.” Sublime. And, the naming of Tannhäuser gate is choke full of historical reference. He was poet, Wagner wrote an opera something like Tannhäuser and Venus". Again, can’t say enough about this movie. Then, it’s a very short hop to Philip K. Dick, one of my very favorite Sci-Fi authors… More of his work should be adapted to comics… Why not? Heh, heh. Go read a Scanner Darkly, the book is brilliant.
Gotta run.
Wolfy said:
Blade runner and Logans Run are great sci-fi flicks. I like Event Horizon cause it has a horror aspect to it kind-of like the Dead Space comic
Hooaaa! That was a cool show. Great fan-base. If I could sit folks down for 3 or 4 episodes, I could get them hooked. But, most of my friends just didn’t seem to get the show… “That show was weird”. Whaddayagonnado? Then the get into something like Stargate SG-1… The most non-sci-fi Sci-Fi program on TV… Maybe it me that’s weird.
Wolfy said:
My friends brother used to work on farscape back in the 90’s. I think he was a computer effects guy.
hey Wolfy, thanks for the Terminator omnibus recommendation. Yeah, I subscribed to it mainly to pick the two issues that were part of the Painkiller crossover Jane but I ended up liking it. Was intrigued by the Omnibus books but had not clue what they really were about. I might want to check them out at some point.
I see, you’re from the great white north, whereabout? I live nearby Quebec City. I’m French Canadian first (hence the FrogMan nick, might as well make fun of it myself, heh ;) ) although I try to simply have a Canadian accent and not a French Canadian one. blech… :D
Wolfy said:
Hey Frogman, I saw u subed Terminator 2 Infinity.
If you like it check out the Terminator Ominubus TPB from Dark Horse. If your a fan of the movies and the tv show check it out. Great stories in it about john conner’s special forces crew heading back in time to protect scientists, that are responsible for creating human tissue on top of terminators.
FoC is my favorite book right now. It’s different from Tales b/c it has ongoing storylines. It’s consistently creepy and well written…You could probably jump in whenever, but some threads have been set up since the start. And the book itself is about to change over to God War. If anything, you should snag a copy of The Fugue, which is the first collected volume. Great stuff that would make any Lovecraft fan happy. I couldn’t put the book down!
Wolfy said:
Hey there, I saw u subed Fall of Cthulhu, is it good? Like Cthulhu Tales?
It’s an ongoing, but each arc isn’t really connected. It’s similar to Tales, but I honestly feel the story is much, MUCH better in Fall.
Wolfy said:
How is Fall of Cthulhu? Is it like Cthulhu Tales? Are the Cthulhu one-shots any good? You’ll probably like Necronomicon it’s the august release from boom-stuidios, I think its a tie-in to Cthulhu.
I’m actually really loving Northlanders, the protaginist reminds me alot of a videogame character Kratos from the God of War games. My favorite moments were probably everything in the 1st issue, the goat mask thing(totally nuts), and the flashback.
I think im going to stick it out and see where this arc at least goes to (I think it ends at #8). I’ve been cool about the slow pacing of the book, I actually think he pulls it off pretty well, but with the newest issue I was like “oh my god, how can you just stop it there…a whole damn month of waiting?!?!?!”.
Hah, anyway I think it’s been solid stuff but depending on how this arc plays out, I might just trade wait it.
As far as the iceberg thing goes, hell ya dude, I’m calling it issue #8 is going to be off the wall gory and aweesome(the art by the way is awesome on this book).
Wolfy said:
You think Northlanders is getting better? I think its just the tip of the iceberg, but if it isnt i’ll be disappointed.
Well, hmm? I have it on VHS. And, I finally found a DVD out on some obscure website… turns out someone out there burned the VHS to DVD. It’s a pirated copy and I wasn’t too happy about it. The thing we should do is write MTV productions, en masse, and ask them to release this on DVD. Crazier things have happened.
Again, the comics are the best — a big part for me, is Sam Kieth’s art.
Wolfy said:
I’ve never read the Maxx comic, but I would buy the cartoon if it I find it somewhere on DVD or Possably Blue-Ray. Maxx is 2nd on my Comic Book Series Wish-List, under Preacher. 3rd on my list is Sandman, I heard its amazing.
Have you read the comic series? The cartoon was Issues #1 – #12. There are 36… or 6 Trades. Sam Kieth did the art. He is one of my favorite artists. He also did Batman Secrets, Batman/Lobo, some of the Sandman series… let’s see??? Ojo, Epicurus: The Sage, Zero Girl, Four Women. I love his Batman stuff, and Sandman was great all around. The Maxx though, that series is so full of angst, social pathos… it’s like unfolding and unraveling Julie’s and The Maxx’s psychosis as viewed from inside their own heads… It’s one of those series that is sort of like Jimi Hendrix… I get more out it each time I experience it.
Gotta run.
Wolfy said:
Oh and The Maxx is one of my favourite cartoons.
Space Opera is a sub-genre of sci-fi lit. Asimov’s Foundation/Robot universe and Dune being fine examples. Dan Simmons is an amazing writer who has done a Olympos/Illium series… it’s basically The Greeks in space… sort of (Illiad/Odyssey in an extraterrestial setting)… He has also wrote Hyperion, Endymion. There are lot more that I am not thinking of. Any subject involving space dramas, wars, empires, generations… that is the space opera realm… Star Wars fits nicely into that slot in both comics and film. Farscape, Babylon 5, Star Trek and for true camp and weird… The Lexx.

“Arkham Asylum was named in honour of the fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts, one of the settings of H. P. Lovecraft’s horror stories. In fact, when the asylum first appeared, it was actually in the city of Arkham; its Gotham location, and the consequent alternative explanation of the name, were later retcons. Lovecraft’s Arkham Sanitarium may have been inspired by the Danvers State Insane Asylum (aka the Danvers State Hospital) in Danvers, Massachusetts.
Arkham is similar to several real life mental hospitals. Ward’s Island in the East River was the home of the New York City Asylum for the Insane, opened around 1863, and the nearby Roosevelt Island once had several mental institutions and prisons including the New York City Lunatic Asylum."
-WikipediaFacinating info about HPL, I’m reading Locke and Key, I am on #5 which comes out june 11. Its great
. The Writer Joe Hill is Steven Kings son, im a huge fan of Steven King btw. I love David Cronenberg films, Session 9-By Brad Anderson, Wes Craven, John Carpenter(The Thing), Clive Barker, George Romero(1970’s/80’s only) and last but not least Dario Argento. Check out the movie Minotaur, you will probably like it. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7xxgyrs12USpace opera? like 2001 a space odyssey? I’ll check out Dagon, i’ve seen Re-animator it’s a cult classic :).
… Oh, and get a copy of “Batman: Arkham Aslyum”… Great story, great art (Dave McKean). Arkham Aslyum is the fiction insane asylum that HPL’s Father (?)… some relative ended up in actual location is somewhere near Salem, Mass.

Hey Doug, I own a copy of “The Transition of H.P Lovecraft – The Roiad to Madness”. It contains 29 tales, one of them is “At the Mountains of Madness". I enjoyed “The Tree”, I have only read a few tales, but I’m going to read “At the Mountains of Madness” tonight. Thanks for the recommendations. I liked Haunt of Horror Lovecraft #1, how about you? Also there is a comic called Necronomicon being released in August from BOOM! studios, it relates to Cthulhu Tales. I’m hooked.
Cool. I think you like it. If you have the recent Modern Library version, read the Forward by China Mieville. He discusses HPL’s racist views and fears laced throughout his writing – much the same way as they are represented on old Looney Tunes cartoons. It would seem that the 1st-half of the 20th century, though rid of slavery still embraced a cultural bias that was part of the pre-civil rights zeitgeist.
A lot of HPL’s short stories a variations on the same them or components in the Cthulhu Mythos. There are also many writes who write within the Mythos cannon. Creating a rich tapestry of this bizarre alternate “dream” world, much like the Maxx’s Pangaea, psychologically.
He also writes extensively of New England which if you live or travel there can see readily. You can build a vacation around HPL theme in New England…
Another comic that is (might be) in the HPL theme is Locke and Key. I have only read #1, so far, but is seemed to be heading that way. There are a couple of Trades you might want to check out, too: “Lovecraft” and “Haunter of the Dark”… and some cool movies from the mind of HPL or in the Mythos are “From Beyond” (cheezy B Movie), Re-Animator (Hilarious B Movie) and “Dagon” (this one actually can creep you out).
You’d think I did nothing else, but pursue HPL realms in all media. Not true… I am actually a sci-fi and Space Opera fancier. Anyway… nuff said for one night.

I’m hooked.
I haven’t followed Fall of Cthulhu, but I am interested in picking it up in Trades. I always felt the art work was a little shy. But, I like Cthulhu Tales so much and the art in them is such a mixed bag. If you really like H.P. Lovecraft’s work (1) you should just read his work… I just love his overstated bombastic Victorian vernacular… I laugh everytime I read something of his. But, in the comics world if you like HPL and the Cthulhu Mythos, I’d dig into Wormwood and all of Mignola’s stuff… Hellboy, Lobster Johnson, Abe Sapien, BPRD… Mignola definitely derives some inspiration from HPL… and Mignola is a better writer. The big, “BUT” is that you really should read HPL, his stuff is so cool. I highly recommend “At the Mountains of Madness” and “The Dream Quest of the Unknown Kadath”. These are two stories that are highly adaptable to the comic/GN medium. I’m not a copyright laywer or a decent artist, so all I can do is wish.
Hope you pursue and enjoy…

Hey Douglas, I saw you subscribed to Cthulhu Tales. Have you read Fall of Cthulhu or the one-shots? I might pick up the trades but I’m unsure.
What I love about Pax Romana is that everything is so high conecpt, from interesting art (playing with symetrical and asymetrical layouts) to the dialogue and transcripts. I love the introduction for Chase’s team, and the scene between their miltary force and the roman soldiers was killer.
I’m definitely going to pick up the trade for Lobster Johnson, are you a fan of Hellboy as well? The writer puts so much out there, is there anything you consider must haves?

I totally agree wqith you about Pax and Transhuman. I love Hickmans art in Pax, and Trans human was supposed spotlighted for its humor and its has none. I eanna see what A Red Mass For Mars is gonna be like. I really enjoyed lobster johnson and the iron Prometheus, its set in the 1930’s, the tale follows the still-living Johnson as he and his allies face the Nazi threat as well as cannibals and yeti. Dr. Fu Manchu isnt in it.
Its about a guy with a special weapon suit, lobster johnson has to protect him so it doesn’t fall into nazi hands, filled with paranormal, sorcery, and pulp fiction.
I like Hickman’s work, though I think Pax Romana has been his best so far. I found transhuman to be ok, though definitely not for its “humor”.
Hey man, how is Lobster Johnson? I’m thinking about picking up the trade, love the hellboy stuff! Is Dr. Fu Manchu in this one as well, it looked like it from the cover, and if thats the case I am so buying the book.
Deadspace sounds pretty cool, I love what I’ve seen of Brian Templesmith’s art on it. I have a xbox 360 btw, which I love, they should really do a Bioshock comic, that would be incredible!
Btw my gamertag is Silencedezgunz, and have you seen the animated version of Deadspace #1 on youtube, its pretty awesome!

Dead space is pretty cool i’ve always been a fan of horror/sci-fi. The comic is a prequel to the game, reminds me of John Carpenters remake of The Thing. Do you have 360 or PS3?
Hey, How’s dead space been? I’m interested in the videogame coming out for it, and the comic looks pretty cool with templesmith on art.
Oh ya for best horror comic: 30 Days of Night
Graphic Novels Reviews
V For Vandetta the GN was 100 times better then the movie, the words and symbolism do not even compare. Alan Moore’s writing in this book makes it a master-piece. I think it should be taught in highschool.
A pretty awesome occult/horror comic from IDW, I picked up the issues instead of the GN, I liked the covers too much. The artwork is fantastic, very crisp.
“Hard Boiled is a three-issue comic book mini-series written by Frank Miller and drawn by Geof Darrow, and published by Dark Horse Comics in 1990. In it, Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator, discovers he is also a homicidal cyborg tax collector who happens to be the last hope of an enslaved robot race.” -Wikipedia
You might want to read it a few time once only for the art (it’s stunningly detailed and amazing colours), and twice to understand the story better.
It’s pretty much a rollercoaster for your eyes
Cool story, very Noir style artwork, a lot of shadows. The cover art was awesome for all issues but I could only find 1-3 at my LCBS. A fun read.
